Mapping / BSP leak check doesn't work
« on: July 27, 2015, 10:39:57 AM »
What bsp version do you use?

Did you already tried to use the leak check with the bsp version from our ftp server?

2
Adding a central repository for ent/mapinfo files that will load by default if a server doesn't have it's own file.

Thought this was already posted, but I could only find the done feature vote that ent files read from pball/maps/ent.

The last vote is almost 10 month ago. So, now it's time for new maps.

Last time we did a poll to get a complete new rotation. Now, we're going back to the old voting system, where you can vote your own suggestions in and out.

You can vote 6 maps we should delete and suggest 5 maps we should add. Please don't suggest beta or bug maps.

We'll change the rotation on august 15th 2011.

At the moment there are the following maps in the rotation:

Official Feature Votes / Bug/Tweak: group key for item_pballammo
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:18:08 PM »
I'm not sure if this is a bugfix or a tweak. The group key is already implemented for all other items. It would be nice if it works for the item_pballammo entity, too.

Mapping / Seeking Mapping Committee Volunteers
« on: December 23, 2010, 01:52:57 PM »
This game has lots of maps. All the maps are a big part of the game and they're very important for it. But next to the better maps there're unfortunately many maps with fundamental bugs, misalignments, other problems or just unfinished ones. There're also many maps with less obvious things like "why do I look in front of a wall after respawn" or "why does my team has worse items". This can be fixed for better balanced maps, too. All in all it's very important to improve the current maps/maplists. Jitspoe accepted to establish a mapping committee for that, because it needs a lot of work. The mapping committee will mainly improve the current maps.

Maybe, with time, we can fill the server rotations with solid, fun, good-looking, accessible maps that will keep new players coming back for more.

Some examples of things the committee may have to work on:
- enforcing some hard standards for (match) maps
- selecting the maps that meet the new standards and creating maplists
- creating files for each map (ent, mapinfo, mapshot, etc.)
- fixing up popular maps that doesn't meet the new standards and gradually replace the old maps
- improving and finishing eternal beta maps with much potential

So if you're interested in helping out on the mapping committee, please respond to the following questions. BSP experiences would be helpful.

How much time per week would you be willing to spend for improving the current maps?

How long have you played, how long have you mapped (if applicable) and how many maps do you know?

On a scale from 1 to 10, how experienced would you say you are with BSP or other mapping tools? (1 being you know what bsp is. 10 being you can do everything with BSP.)

On a scale from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the current maps? (1 being no maps are of good standard. 10 being all of the maps are perfect.)

On a scale from 1 to 10, what's more important for you? A big choice/possibility of maps (1) or only a few maps, but with a very high quality (10)?

How would you deal with a total bugmap you really like?

Would you be willing to support/improve maps you don't like?

How much time would you say is necessary for each map (on average)?

What do you think about beta maps on pub/match server?

Why do you feel you would be a good member of the mapping committee?

EDIT: Thanks for the help ViciouZ, my english isn't the best ;)

Completed Maps / New Map: Island
« on: November 12, 2010, 09:01:04 AM »
Here is the new ctf map Island - The Middle of Nowhere. It's a big and opened map with one flag for each team.

I was bored about all the boxy ice jump maps in the last time, where aiming and tactic are less important than jumping.

So I decided trying to make a more realistic looking map, where you can't fly through the whole map from base to base. I also wanted to know if such a complex map - with more than 10.000 numportals after detailing all possible stuff for example - is possible with bsp or not.

Because of that, I started this map just as a test map, but I think the result is not that bad. Hopefully that the complex brushwork can influence the gameplay positiv.

The r_speeds should be ok. I added lots of hint brushes to lower them. Just the water area in the mid of the map has r_speeds up to 3.700 wpoly because of the reflection.

Download island_b1 here!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone an idea how to make the following red marked area more interesting without adding a second flag?

Bugs, Feature Requests, and Feedback / requiredfiles doesn't work correct
« on: November 09, 2010, 11:03:38 AM »
If there're two or more files, the game stops downloading as soon as it doesn't need to download a file.

Example 1:

"requiredfiles" "file1 file2 file3 file4 file5"

Let's say that a player has already file3.

file1 downloads correct
file2 downloads correct
file3 doesn't need to be downloaded
***the game stops/ends all downloads now***
file4 won't download
file5 won't download

Example 2:

"requiredfiles" "file1 file2 file3 file4 file5"

Let's say that a player has already file1.

file1 doesn't need to be downloaded
***the game stops/ends all downloads now***
file2 won't download
file3 won't download
file4 won't download
file5 won't download

So the game will download nothing.

Clans, Matches, and Tournaments / [OTB] 5th Birthday Cup (3on3)
« on: November 08, 2010, 11:27:13 AM »
Because of our 5th clan birthday on November 20th, 2010 we will organize a 3on3 cup. Hopefully we can get an exiting and funny cup with lots of players and teams.

General stuff:

1. The [OTB] 5th Birthday Cup will be on November 20th, 2010, our birthday.
2. The cup begins at 3:00 pm (GMT+1).
3. We assume that the cup will take around 4 hours.
4. Website: http://cup.otb-server.de
5. Registration: http://cupreg.otb-server.de
6. Chat / IRC: #otb
7. TeamSpeak³: 83.169.4.183:9987
8. Game server:
   a) Server 1: 83.169.4.183:20111
   b) Server 2: 83.169.4.183:20112
   c) Server 3: 83.169.4.183:20113
   d) Server 4: 83.169.4.183:20114
9. There won't be any prizes. It should be Just4Fun.

Teams & players:

1. There are 12 teams. The first 12 registered teams can play.
2. One team can have 3-5 players. The players of one team can be in different clans.
3. You can register your team about the registration link. Contact us if you want to register more players later.
4. One player of each team must be online on IRC 15 minutes before the cup starts and the whole cup time.
5. Each team can get an own channel on our TeamSpeak³-Server for the cup.
6. No player can play for 2 teams.
7. All players must have a global login account.
8. All players must have build030+.

Rules:

1. The [OTB] 5th Birthday Cup is a 3on3 "Capture The Flag" cup.
2. Most important are fun and fairplay. If we note that a player has modified textures, cheat, hack, etc., the whole team will be disqualified from the cup.
3. The cup begins with 4 groups. In each group will be 3 teams. The teams are chosen randomly.
4. Each team plays against each other team of the same group. So there will be 3 rounds and 2 matches for each team in the group.
5. The worst team of each group is eliminated.
6. In the playoffs, there are only k.o. matches. If a team loose, it's eliminated.
7. A team gets a point for each map it wins. We will also add the map results (e.g. 50:37) .
8. The are no tiemaps (except 9e). Important are the count of maps a team could win and the results of these maps. This applies for the groups and the k.o. matches.
9. We will determine the winner/s of each group/k.o. match as follows:
   a) count of won maps (e.g.: 4 for four won maps)
   b) difference of the added map results (e.g.: +27 for the added result of 77:50)
   c) count of own points of the added map results (e.g.: 77 for the added result of 77:50)
   d) direct comparison (e.g.: 2:0 for two won maps and no lost maps)
   e) tiemap: propaint1
10. Only the players of the teams and an admin are allowed to join the server.
11. You can have a look at the times for your matches on the website. Maybe the matches can be a few minutes later.
12. There are 2 maps for each match. You can have a look at the maps for your matches on the website or the maplist below. The first called map is the first one; the second called map is the second one.
13. The first called team can choose the color of the first map; the second called team can choose the color of the second map.
14. If a team isn't online when there is a match with it, we will add a 0:50 result for each map.
15. One player of each team must provide a screenshot after each map, where we can see the players and the results.

Server:

1. There will be 4 server for the cup (location: germany). We'll start them just before the tournament begins.
2. Each map will be played 10 minutes. If the result is balanced at the end of a map, there will be an overtime of 1 minute.
3. We'll add an ent file for each map to fix some entities. We won't change the entities the way we did on the speed server. So you can play all maps as usual.
4. For each team there will be 2 paint grenades and 1 smoke grenade.
5. All maps will be played with default guntemp (guntemp_inc 11 and guntemp_dec 4).
6. All other settings are like the normal match settings.

Maplist:

Round 1:   temple22   &   rome
Round 2:   eclissi   &   waffle
Round 3:   propaint2   &   hca_fort
Quarterfinals:   beta/island_b1*   &   nhb
Semifinals:   carpathian   &   castle1
3rd place match:   worldfades   &   discovery
Final:   worldfades   &   discovery

* We'll release the map island_b1 one week before the cup begins. If there're difficulties or problems with it, we'll try to release a second beta as well. If there's not enough time for a second beta, we'll replace island_b1 with the tiemap propaint1.

The website is german only, but google is your friend :P
If you have any questions, you can post it here or ask us in IRC or TeamSpeak³. We'll try to answer it in english then ;)

Help and Support / Entities are negative
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:33:34 AM »
I was playing on our speed server a few minutes ago and there happend some weird graphic issues (just for me?).

1. Screenshot was discovery:
Almost the whole base was just a big colormix. Just the entities work. The mid area was almost ok. Only two or three textures were looking crazy. It was also strange, that the barrels in front of the base and on ice were looking weird and the other barrels in the caves were looking normal.

2. and 3. Screenshot was nolandr:
An opposite of the first screenshot, a little bit. The whole map was looking normal. Water (without reflective) was normal, too. But all entities are negative. Just the red playermodels are ok.

Server Discussion / [OTB] Speed - Mapvoting #7
« on: September 08, 2010, 02:24:16 PM »
It's time for a new speed server maprotation! There are a few changes this time.

First of, we will remove all actual maps from the speed server. So we can get a complete new rotation. Hopefully that this big change with lots of new maps will make the same or more fun.

You can vote up to 20 maps from a 30 map pool selected by us. In this pool there won't be overplayed speed server maps (like shazam33), bug maps, unfinished (beta) maps, (ice) "jumpmaps" or other for newbies unfriendly maps anymore. There won't be maps, that get the most votes in the poll about the "worst speed server maps" one year ago (ccc, dome, anubis, ub_rooftop, remenissions, prolandr and propaint1), too.

We hope that there will be a good mix of older and newer maps, smaller and bigger maps, less famous and more famous maps, 1-flag and more-flag maps (for each team). Most of the maps are CTF, some other ones are SIEGE or DM.

Note, that we will add .ent files for all maps. That's why you don't need to pay attention for warnings while loading, bad spawnpositions or other entities. Please be fair and give all maps the same chance. Have a look at the maps you don't know before you begin to vote your favorite maprotation.

In our opinion a poll is easier and faster for you than posting maps in and out. So it would be nice if many of you could find the time to vote. If two or more maps have the same number of votes, we will decide what map should be in the maprotation. Thanks for voting!

If you want to post feedback about this new voting system, we would be thankful. For following mapvotings, we would really like to know if you prefer the old voting system with posting maps in and out or this "new" one with a map pool and a poll. You don't need to post names of voteable or other maps. This won't influence the result of the poll.

The change of the maprotation will be on october 1st 2010. The voting time will also end this day. We hope you enjoy the new rotation with lots of new maps!

Vote your own favorite maprotation now :D

« on: April 06, 2010, 01:12:09 PM »
After a few months of work we are happy to release a german BSP Mapping Tutorial now. This first part includes all necessary basics of mapping.

For this first part, we wrote detailed topics, changed lots of BSP settings to make BSP more beginner friendly, made example maps, made some other things and added this button to the completely new sorted toolbar. This button links you to the BSP Mapping Tutorial.

We want to improve and develop this BSP Mapping Tutorial all the time. Therefore we are grateful for all feedbacks we can get.

Finally we are hoping for nice new maps and want to wish you a lot of fun while mapping and using our BSP Mapping Tutorial.

With the preview of twilight2, we can present you a new map on our 4th birthday.

The first twilight - 2005

Now, we fixed bugs, added some nice stuff and rebuild the map a little bit.

The map is almost beta, but this bug really should be fixed before.

Thanks to IronFist, DirtyTaco and jitspoe, that they let us do this continuing of twilight. Also a big thanks to T3RR0R15T, who helped with his many ideas and impressions.

Download twilight2_preview.rar here!

Have fun while playing/testing!
