Installing and Starting TrenchBroom v2023

Step #1:
Downloading the right files:
    - Download the latest TrenchBroom version from GitHub/kduske
    - Download the compilers and sample map from Mirror/digitalpaint.org
    - Download the utility textures from Mirror/digitalpaint.org

Step #2:
Uncompress all the files:
    - You should end up with 3 different directories shown here
    - Rename 'TrenchBroom-XXX-vXXXX.X-Release' to 'TrenchBroom'. This is very important.
Further on this guide, this directory is called 'TrenchBroom installation directory'. Feel free to move it where you want TrenchBroom to be installed.

Step #3:
Copy the contents from 'common':
    - Copy the image files from 'common' into Paintball2/pball/textures/pball
    - These are utility textures, you'll need them if you are serious about mapping

Step #4:
First launch:
    - Navigate to 'TrenchBroom' installation directory and launch TrenchBroom
    - Click 'New map' and select Digital Paintball2
    - Click 'Open preferences...'
    - Configure path to Paintball2 installation directory
    - Make sure you close TrenchBroom before moving to step #5

(Step #4.1:)
(Optionally enable 2 pane view):
    - While in the preferences, click the monitor icon and select 'Two Panes' from the dropdown menu. Personally I prefer this mode over 'One Pane'
    - Make sure you close TrenchBroom before moving to step #5

Step #5:
Installing compilers:
    - Remember those 3 directories shown in step #2? Navigate to 'TB-DP2CompilerprofilesYYYYMMDD'
    - Copy 'maps' and 'tools' directories into your TrenchBroom installation directory we renamed earlier to 'TrenchBroom'
    - Copy 'CompilerProfiles.cfg' into 'AppData/TrenchBroom/Games/Digital Paintball2/'.
You can access AppData by pressing Windows Key and typing '%appdata%' and hitting Enter.

Step #6:
Second launch:
    - Open TrenchBroom and select 'Browse'
    - Navigate to the 'maps' directory we copied in step #5 and open 'sample.map'

Step #7:
Loading textures into TrenchBroom:
    - To load textures into TrenchBroom, click on 'Face' on the right to change into 'Face Menu'.
Then on the lower right corner click 'Texture Colletions' to expand it and double-click on the collection you want to enable.

Step #8:
Compiling a Map:
    - Make sure you have a directory called 'inprogress' in your Paintball2/pball/maps/ directory. This is very important
    - To compile a map, click on 'Run' and then 'Compile'
    - Choose one of the 4 presets for compiling:
Full: for final version, can take a long time on complex maps
Fast: faster than final, but gives less finished results
bsp: compiles only the bsp, no vis or light
relight: relights the map, without revising it. Useful when you have a final map but want to change the lighting

Alright! I think you are all set now. Happy mapping and don't be afraid to DM me on DP2 discord (@whoa) if you need further assistance.

Huge thanks to xaGe for implemeting Paintball2 support to TrenchBroom. We could have not done it without you!

Bal's Twitch page, really great mapper for some inspiration
Pile of trench related gifs

Nice to see pball picking up trench. Make sure you make good use of the valve220 format for texturing :)

It was brought to my attention that google drive flags my files as viruses so I am mirroring them here
