Title: New speed server!

I decided to start a speed server >_>

Map list... is not particularly great or large for a speed server.

The server is a FreeBSD box colocated in a datacenter in LA. Unfortunately, the bandwidth is cheap. Although it should be at least 8 mbits/sec, the latency is bad.

I don't think anyone's going to play though. The latency is pretty horrendous (50 ms near LA, 200 ms across the US?). Upgrading the bandwidth, without adding cost, would drop the bandwidth quota by 2 terabytes. :P

Just an aesthetic choice. Change the naming of your servers. Right now I see 3 servers with very turn-offish names like "[KAF] Pub 3 #############################"

1) where are pubs 1 and 2?
2) why the # signs?

More players might play your servers if you instead used something like...
"sk89q's Private Server"
"sk89q's Public Server"
"sk89q's Speed Server"

To add to this. People don't know what [kaf] is so they write the name off as just more DSL-run servers for a no-name clan. Using your actual name in the server name would get you more players on the servers..

The numbering scheme is something from two years ago... it's some internal thing. I always figured it looked funny... I suppose I'll change it.

I think I might change the Pub and Speed into DP Resource's servers. I'll keep private for [kaf] because it's for one of my websites.
