Title: You should inject some inteligence??
Post by: TEKNIKAL on January 15, 2003, 04:42:31 AM: Any chance of adding some form of bot AI cuz my connection is dodgy so it kinda cuts me off every so often, plus it could used to practice offline. And what about converting Regular Q2 maps for PBall use and maybe include some mission maps like finding an item and returning it to base or even a conquest mode like domination in Unreal Tourney.

I mean, come on - stupid teamates that just get in the way -you pull out the pistol and actually kill them. And they are out for the span of the map.

Here's the deal on AI. It won't be possible to make bots anywhere near as skilled as good players for a couple reasons. First of all, real players have a high framerate enabling them to do crazy jumps and whatnot. The server (what all the bots would run off of) runs at basically 10 fps. If you've ever tried playing at 10fps, you'll realize how difficult some movement is.

The second thing is, of course, making the bots "intelligent." A lot of gameplay is about improvisation, which is practically impossible to code. Getting anything remotely intelligent will require a lot of time -- time which could be dedicated to other elements of the game.

That being said, should I still work on bots?

ps: Ive finnaly got round to playing on some servers and there seems to be a few empty but still i got close to wiping Jitspoe out(i got into the game but my pc crashed) lol

Post by: TEKNIKAL on February 20, 2003, 11:10:27 AM: Oh, yeah, mario AI was so good (shall i go left or right i dont really care as its all i'm programmed to do) sorry i meant stoopid but it was the only real form of AI but its now long outdated. oh and Jitspoe I meant Emulsify you but alas as i said not far into the game my pc went a little crazy but altho bots are lame you should consider it as an offline alternative. if possible could you slow the game speed just a fraction (by about 5-10%)?
