Title: New Map: SuiSlide
Post by: skitzo on December 05, 2007, 06:16:46 PM
yeah my first map released (not first map ever) i meant for it to be a kind of dark medium sized map for speed so here's some screenshots:
red base (blue is same except blue wood):

its ok by my standards, but the jumps are a tad awkward, for instance, you have to approach the two ramps leading to the top oddly, and the blocks at both ends stop jumpers quickly, very quickly x.x i cant comment on the textrures and whatnot, im not picky :P

well if you hit the ramps at an angle kinda toward the corner of the ramp and the big pyramid thing you fly up top to the high ramp to hit flag.also made a few adjustments with textures and added some ammo so might have to re dl :D . here's a demo:

i stil reccommend making the two side ramps that support the tops bases wider, thats the only thing i really notice about the map.
but im only the noob who stalks the forums now and then, get prepared for yootz and the others  :P

Why are blocks of ice floating in the air? :-\

alright i added pillars at the beginning of the ice and connected the mid to the brick walls on side so it doesn't look like it's floating anymore

yeah i made b3 considering the topic kind of died =/

new features:
 - raised ceiling and high mid (now you don't hit your head)
 - added second flag
 - added mid bridge type thing
 - made a ladder to go up to a camping spot on ice

hopefully this post gets more feedback so i can continue this map =/

Seems kind of simple.  I like the game play but the map in general is just too big.  My advice is to scale it down 1/4 of the size it is now.  I see that you did put some time in the jumps though because some of them seem to be almost perfectly placed.  r_speeds aren't too bad though I is really only one room.  Maybe the others will be able to help you a bit more though.

well if i were to scale it down the jumps would be pointless you'd make the jump like every time and be to flag and back in like 10 seconds

I've uploaded it to the beta server and attached a demo of things you might want to revise.

Not to be mean, but you need some more practice making object with brushes.
The flag stand looks terrible because of the design of the brushes.

Needs to have some sort of realism to it, not just 100 random brushes to make a solid object.

^^^ My opinion ^^^

I messed around with it a little.  The changes aren't complete, but they might give you some ideas/inspiration.

You need to be careful with your brushes - I noticed a lot of them were overlapping and kind of placed haphazardly.  Try to keep everything aligned.

Edit: Added a screenshot.
