Title: B20 Bug: B19 clients getting stuck
Post by: XtremeBain on December 22, 2007, 10:34:22 PM
I started playing on a couple servers that were updated today with my B19 cilent (no linux client update) and noticed that I'm getting stuck to the ground or walls an awful lot while playing.  A couple other Windows B19 players are also noticing this.

Attached a demo.

Strange, that stuff shouldn't have changed.  It's probably my copy of linux screwing with things again.  Probably updated the math library or something and now everything is off.  Try "cl_showmiss 1" and see if it spams a bunch of stuff.  Also try the build 20 server update executables on the client.  Which server were you testing this on?

Edit: Well, I just tried on the EV1 server with both a build 20 and 19 windows client, and neither stuck.  I ran around on carpathian and tried some of the same stuff in your demo.  What I'm running on the EV1 server is the debug build, though, so it's probable the math calculations are different in release mode.  Not sure why these would change all of a sudden, but I go back to my previous statement.  Linux backward compatibility is terrible.

Edit 2: Put up a test server with the release build and I'm getting all kinds of prediction misses on angled walls.  Stupid linux. :P

We weren't imagining it!

on edit - here's a demo of me stuttering while jumping and a pic of my netgraph.

I forgot what the cvar was to show the prediction misses, but that's what I figured it was.  I guess I'll downgrade to the B19 gamei386.so and paintball2 binaries since these prediction problems are pretty bad.

cl_showmiss 1

gcc must have changed some optimizations that cause the calculations to come out differently.  Wish I could just downgrade, but the dependency hell that Linux is doesn't make that very easy.

Yep.  Like the thread below yours says, it's a problem with the build 20 server: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=10850.0

We are currently waiting for a fix from Jitspoe. No telling how long that could take though considering his current situation.

I have a fix - I had to shut off all the optimizations, but at least it works now.  Go to sf.net/projects/paintball2 and grab the build020b server update.  I also threw in logging for attempted exploits (search the console logs for "ADMIN:").

OK I have that on my servers.

Loaded up pball_shreds1 and didnt get stuck or stutter on the jumps as was in the first b20 build
