A number really isn't all that useful for identifying people in-game. This'd return all the names of a player given a global ID number or perhaps the player ID number in-game.

You can do the players command in the game on a server to get IDs.
-
Yeah, but sometimes typing correctly 3 is easier than 6346. ;) The larger number might be difficult to catch if lots of chatting is going on, as well.

actually, it would be very (much more than you suggest) interesting to have an API to retrieve the player names from an ID from a PHP class (e.g. when implementing an AJAX call? or similar). Would be cool to have some call to some URL that would return all player names that belong to the specified ID given in the call.
PS: me = drunk. sry for possible misunderstanding :D

jits, why did you vote -1 on it?

It's an almost unnecessary feature just to curb the laziness of a few of us...

Some people like to hop on a server just to play and be left alone, so they use an alternative (but registered) name. If it becomes really easy to check what their other names are, then they may start playing without being logged in, register multiple accounts, etc. I would prefer that people just use the login system the way it was meant to be used, so I rather not to implement features that might discourage that.

I agree with that Jitspoe but once there are better bots, people might just play in a server with bots and not even play online.

I agree, that is a pain. I wrote a Java APP to handle this, it's simple and to the point but will get messed up if jitspoe changes the HTML for player ID pages... you can download the .jar here, if you have java installed it should appear as an executable... http://loluploads.com/550680
