We are acquiring a small business from my father in law who is retiring. It will be in addition to our regular work, but will be some good extra money, and has room for expansion.
What web hosting company do you recommend?
We won't need tons of bandwidth, etc. This is marketed to a fairly specific niche market, not the masses. We do need good up time and a cheap price.
Thanks.

Do you actually mean dedicated server hosting?
If so you could try the www.theplanet.com or www.serverpronto.com
-
He's not going to need a dedicated server. Decent hosting goes around for $3.50-$10.00 USD/mo. Any lower and you're going to get screwed. Any higher and you're going to get ripped off. I can't suggest, because I've been either (1) leeching off friends or (2) lately (for a few years) piggy backing off the web host my friend started off in high school. I do hear good things about DreamHost (http://www.dreamhost.com/) though, but they're not the cheapest.

I think Host Gator is pretty decent.

Go to bed Jits
m7... check locally, i.e. call a local "technology solutions" or whatever place and ask what they'd charge for a slice of hosting on their T1... I use to get ridiculously good rates...
Avoid GoDaddy for hosting... slow, deceitful, though very cheap. A friend of mine uses 1and1.com and loves it...

There is a place in based in Dallas called wyenet www.wyenet.com .
I've had several servers, shared and dedicated, for businesses hosted with them. They have a shared package on a linux box stating at around 25.00 a month.
For a business, they really can't be beat. WHen youcall them for support, a HUMAN answers in 2 to 3 rings and they ask you " linux or windows support" then they transfer you to another REAL HUMAN.

I use hostgator, on the cheapest package, no problems, great tech support, more than enough space and a ton of stuff on the control panel.

German webhosting companies for the win :)

Thanks folks. Looking over these recommendations. I also came across a rankings site and this one was on top. Anyone have experience with this company?

THe kicker with that company, and a lot of others, is that they don't talk about their internet connectivity. This would be fine for a personal site, but you're talking business.
This is why I highly recommend wyenet, or at least the planet.

I've used several web hosting companies over the last 8 years. I have finally settled with West Host and have not had any problems with down time or ease of use for the last 2 1/2 years.

Why are you guys offering up these business solutions, he just needs some cheap hosting from a well-known company.

West Host has very competitive plans and since he mentioned that it is for a small "business". I thought he would want a company that could help him expand when he needed to.

60$ a year and you get plenty of everything.
I've used them for more than a year and I don't ever recall having any downtime at all.
