This is at least the second time DaRkNeSS has been involved with cheats. Another time he was giving suggestions to Zaltekk for the new version of ZGH. This time he found a new way to cheat and shared it with MaDMaN (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=11941.0) (and possibly others). This is basically a permanent ban. Cheats have no place here. Don't ask for them, don't use them, and don't share them. If you happen across a cheat or find an exploit that could be abused, tell me and that's it.

Anyway just looked at the title and technically he didn't create it, someone else did *cough* jitspoe *cough*. Shouldn't it be something more like Exploiting and Sharing Cheat Methods.

My question is, if the hack was created then SHARED, who had it, who used it? If some of the "higher" end match community is found to be caught using it, i believe the commite should decided how long their ban is.

I didn't create the method. I didn't even write the code vulnerable to the cheat.

This cheat has been around since before I started playing PB2. Pretty funny to see two perm bans result from one moron putting credits in the instructions. At least Ruiner gave us some useful content when he tried to pawn this cheat off as his.

Would have been nice if somebody told me about it earlier. I always thought it required a hacked executable.

Man he has been playing for years... Jitspoe, you just found out about this exploit this past week too, am I wrong? Is so, that can't be good... Hopefully this is the only exploit that has been out for this long and we all don't know about it yet.

I would bet there is a pretty good reason too. XtremeBain isn't a slack off and he isn't stupid. We will see from Jitspoe's and Xtreme's next response.

Just because I knew about the cheat, doesn't mean that I knew it was undetectable or that it was circulating in the community. It's one of the oldest Q2 cheats around, and I thought that it was already taken care of. OH YEAH AND I DIDN'T WANT ALL MY FRIENDS IN ER33T TO GET CAUGHT CHEATING LOLOL.

Build 21 sounds like itll have some pretty drastic changes and features.
/me hopes the ballspeed goes back to normal.

To my knowledge the only way this could be prevented without going to a new build would be to have server-based client-side screenshots
All that needs to be done is when a player joins a server, record the md5 of his mapfile, if anytime during the map the md5 changes, he's cheating and notifies the GBL. Such a change would be very very minimal and would not need a new build.
It would take an hour, maybe two, to add this to the cheat detection. It is still possible to use this cheat, however Jitspoe has known about it for almost a week and a half. Which means that anyone that's used it in that time period has probably already been detected, and anyone who uses it from now on will definitely be detected.
In the very near future there will probably be a mass-ban for anyone who has been using this hack.

Thats never been said, tom is right. Jitspoe simply thought it had already been fixed. There won't be any detection for it, the cheat just won't be possible to do.

@Smokey: It took me a moment to filter through all of the its, at first it sounded as if you were saying the cheat couldn't be fixed, i.e. disagreeing with Tom.

how on earth does he have 10 hardware ids on his ban???

Gimmie 3 computers, and I could come up with ~20 different hardware IDs.

ID's are generated from each component of the computer - hard drives, network cards, motherboards, etc.

so the only way would be to switch out components a lot? i mean, it makes sense, but ... just checking.
