This is pretty crazy. A Google has 360 degree photos like every 10 feet along most of the streets around here. :o Here's my apartment complex.

Creepy. I don't have any where I live, and I'm not even that far outside of the city.
-
We got that in Portland a few months back, after San Fransisco did. They're trying to expand it, obviously.
Portland seems to be one of Google's testing-grounds (Google Transit!), which is pretty cool. But hey, we're an awesome city for open source people so I guess it's to be expected. :D

I'm curious what that thing looked like driving around. I'm picturing a van with a mysterious looking contraption on the top with a bunch of cameras mounted in it.

Hm, that's a bit of a let down, but... from one of the replies:
"They didn't use beetles for all the data collection. Dont remember where I saw it now, but saw a reflection of the vehicle taking the pic and it was a full size van. I imagine the same equipment was used though."
Conspiracy! Vans were definitely involved!

Click on "street view." It's only available in certain areas.

$50 for anyone who can post a streetview picture that also has a picture of them in it, i.e. you in front of your house, must match your "who are you" post picture.
-
oww, living in Australia means you have 2 wait a long time until they get here and go it. Its kool though.
