Obviously this isn't reproducing the state that caused the error in build 21. :-\ Did you both have the socket binding error when you tried to load a map?

I have had no errors loading maps in vista. Only problem i get is my PPS drops to 30 every few seconds and it gives me horrible lag.

Windows Vista Home premium.

Ok, different test program. Hopefully this one can reproduce the issue...
-
Test complete.
-
Same. Im getting Test complete.
-
I don't get it, then. I copied the code straight out of paintball2 and called it the same way. Both build 21 and this should work, or neither should. If you're just getting "Test complete," it means there were no errors.
-
I installed dp on my buddy's laptop which has vista. You get bad lag periodically. Sometimes it lags so much it causes an error resulting in dp to close.

I have same, too.

Can you load a map on it? (without connecting to a server)
-
Umm i didn't try to load a map. But we could connect fine.. just got lag spikes every 5-10 seconds.
-
When I connect, no problems, but when it's my server, lan or internet when I type map in console i got
SHutdown game : Failed to bind socket (10022)
-
I'll have a fresh install of Vista Home Premium x64 with all new hardware next week, so I can test it then.... (since my HD died on me, I'm deciding to go to vista...
-
Now it works with my new computer, it's Vista Premium. :)

Build 21 does?
-
I've never had any problems with build 21 so far. (Using Windows Vista Home Premium)
-
Will the service pack 1 help in fixing this issue at all?

socket() returned 68
ioctlsocket() returned 0
bind() returned 0
Test 2:
socket() returned 72
ioctlsocket() returned 0

Got this just now before SP1 (home premium 32bit), will try it again when SP1 becomes available, and then next week I'll have Home Premium x64 to try. (p.s. never had a problem loading maps or anything)
-
What did u changed on the "socket" between b20 and b21?
-
yea i forgot to put in my post that i had sp1 beta. opps
-
What did u changed on the "socket" between b20 and b21?
I don't think I changed much, but I may have made it bail if the socket failed. I don't think it did that before, so if servers didn't work, there wasn't really a way to tell what was wrong. For build 22, I've changed it so it will only bail out if the server is dedicated. That way you can at least load maps and stuff, but other people may not be able to connect to the server. The problem may have been there all along. Try loading a map on build 20 and see if any errors are printed to the console.
-
The build 021 works with my new PC, I can launch a map with the console without shutdown the game

Starting to sound more and more like this is either a bug in vista that was fixed, or a problem with specific versions of vista.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
-
Just out of curiosity - those who are still having problems loading maps on vista with build 21 - what happens if you load a map from the command line, ie:
start|run
c:\games\paintball2\paintball2 +map castle1
vs. starting paintball2, then typing "map castle1" in the console.
-
...paintball2.exe +map castle1

map castle1

I got exactly the same with my other computer
-
My friend has vista, and whenever we tried to load a map ourselves it did the same thing
-
Just installed Vista Home Premium x64 on a new build, and DP worked fine without SP1, and it works fine with SP1...
*edit - wouldn't know why, but could it be with similar AV's... I know having multiple ones can cause error's over the internet, which I've ran into before...
I'm using Avast... but I can't remember what to type in RUN to see all the socket stuff... :/ something with win in it? win______2
-
Netstat?
-
Weird... That really looks like they changed something in the various vista packages. I tried both ways and the game is working.
-
Revision - I can join an online game perfectly.... HOWEVER, I just found out, when I try to play a demo, or start a new game, it causes the bind socket error... So its something with loading a map locally?
-
So its something with loading a map locally?
Right. Loading a map locally starts a server, and that's where the socket error kicks in.
-
Are demos affected?

Are demos affected?
I know the answer, but I'm much more interested as to what you think the answer is.

:-(
I don't know if a server is started or if the client just plays back the packets in the demo - sorry for not having played with code I don't understand :-(
-
Are demos affected?
that's when I found out the problem lol also, the bind socket test still comes out normal for me too...
-
I think Avast! is the problem, when I got it on my computer, i got shutdowngame with failed to bind socket, and when i remove it, it works again
-
I dont have Avast...
-
I dont have Avast...
Perhaps another anti-virus or firewall program then?
-
Sure, but it is the same if i disable it.
-
Ok, so if you have the socket problem with bulid 21, what version of vista are you using? Likewise, those that aren't having the problem - what version of vista do you have?
Let's make it simple:
Vista verison: ___
Do you get the socket error when starting a server (or typing "map" at the console)?: ___
-
Vista version: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit
Do you get the socket error when starting a server (or typing "map" at the console)?: No.
-
Vista version: Vista Home Premium 32 Bits
Do you get the socket error when starting a server (or typing "map" at the console)?: In my computer with avast! yes, without no
-
Vista verison: Vista Home Premium 64-Bit with Avast!
Do you get the socket error when starting a server (or typing "map" at the console)?: yes
-
Vista Edition : Home premium 32 bit. (in french)
No errors when typing map.
On my other computer : Home premium 32 bit (in english)
Im getting the bind socket error
-
Vista verison: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit
Do you get the socket error when starting a server (or typing "map" at the console)?: Yes
-
Maybe you got it because of a 64bit version, terro
-
Vista version: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit
Do you get the socket error when starting a server (or typing "map" at the console)?: Yes.
-
Vista Edition : Home premium 32 bit. (in french)
No errors when typing map.
On my other computer : Home premium 32 bit (in english)
Im getting the bind socket error
Anything different other than the language? Like apps or firewall settings?
-
Vista Edition : Home premium 32 bit. (in french)
No errors when typing map.
On my other computer : Home premium 32 bit (in english)
Im getting the bind socket error
Are both on SP1?
-
Alrighty, I can't load a demo. I get a can't bind socket (10022) error.
Also can't load a map, same error.
Vista Home Preminum with SP1 update, using Avast AV, ran your first test but not the 2nd test script. The game has been very laggy for quite some time, even worse with Norton. If I quit and connect again it seems to help.
Hope it helps... need more info let me know.
-
Most games will lag with Norton AV on, even if your computer is fast. It is a memory and processor hog.
I will be able to test your scripts on my friends computer once I get a chance. You want build 21 with the update to be the testing platform right?
-
Have you got the minimal config ? lol
-
Are both on SP1?
The working computer isn't on SP1. I am downloading it. I'm using AVG antivirus and using Windows Firewall.
The not working Computer isn't using SP1. and using Norton as Antivirus and windows firewall.
