Title: DSL problem
Post by: y00tz on May 14, 2008, 12:06:35 AM
I upgraded from the pathetic 128k DSL package (I'm cheap yeah yeah yeah...) to the highest package they offered, 6.0mbps down, 1.0mbps up - yet after a day on the phone with tech support, I'm still getting 230kbps down, and about 600 up.  My router/modem config page (stupid proprietary SBC/ATT/Yahoo crap) says I'm getting 6016kbps down, and 1021kbps up, any ideas why?

The quoted dsl up and down rates are always within network.  In other words: if you put a server AT the central office, you would probably get close to rated speeds.

I would leave the modem unplugged while at work and then when you get home plug it back in ( power wise)  It might just need a good reset.

That's probably about as good as you're going to get. As Knack said, those speeds are based off of the maximum under a low load at the center of it all. The rules for advertising broadband connections need to be revised. Hell, broadband should be a meddling government-owned operation. It's not like the current companies are doing any better, anyway.

Well before, when I ordered the 128k package after the move,  I was getting the full 128k, and prior to the move when I had the 1.5mbps package, I would get 1496kbps, I was just wincing when I upgraded and got 200k/s :P
