Title: ET: QW
Post by: Eiii on May 17, 2008, 08:35:56 PM
What do you guys think of this game? I'm thinking of picking it up (via Steam :( ), but I remember the demo getting kind of monotonous after a while. Do the maps included with the game and/or the persistent XP thing alleviate this?

I have the game, and love it.  Some new maps are getting ready to come out, so there will be a few more than the standard soon.  And the upgrades, etc, really make the game more interesting.  Oh, and I hate steam btw.  (I have it stand alone).

I'm also in a clan for this game.  You should check out our server/site (Angels Of Death (http://www.clanaod.net/index.php?pageid=enemyterritory)), chances are, I can get you in.

Given the team-based nature of the game, I can see how just pubbing 24/7 would be kind of upsetting. I think I am going to stick with Steam, as I'm not going to play it offline much (or at all).

So yeah, see you soon.

Is AoD a multi-gaming clan, or is it just a very common clan name? I see it in CSS and Tf2 all the time.

It's a multi-game clan and we have 688 members to date.  So far, we have divisions in the following games:

Age of Conan (new division)
Battlefield 2142
Call of Duty 4
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Guild Wars
Star Wars: Jedi Knight
Team Fortress 2
WarRock
World in Conflict
World of Warcraft

The CSS division shut down a few months ago, but I think some members still play that game.

Why would you get it through steam?  Cheaper or something?  I tried to play a single player game on steam the other day and it had trouble connecting, so I couldn't even play it.  Horrible way to handle games from a player standpoint.  Unfortunately, it seems this may be the bleak future for PC gaming.

For me it just goes to 'offline mode' and I can still play everything, I don't know why it didn't for you...

You have to put Steam in 'Offline Mode' while you're still online. Then you can disconnect and such. Not so great for when your internet decides to cut out for a few hours.

I was connected, but steam's service was messed up, so it wouldn't let me log in.

If I can get it without steam, I will.  :P

I love ET:QW. The maps get boring after a while and you have to switch to another game as a break, but I'm glad I bought it. I have to say that id Software and Splash Damage found a way of making vehicles not suck in an FPS, and that's the first time I've been able to say that.

The vehicles are awesome.  If you try hard enough, you can get the GDF boat to do a barrel roll on Island.  :D
(i only did it once, and forgot to demo)
