You are able to modify the engine - this allows you to add and change features that affect graphical effects and sound handling but not physics or gameplay. However, if you use a modified client to play online you will be banned.

For everyday users, absolutely nothing. You can, however, run a modified server (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=14613.0).

You can make graphical improvements, test them, refine them, then if they are of any use, don't horrendously rape resources and look pretty enough, send a patch file to jits so he can include them in the next build. But I doubt you'll be doing that any time soon.

That's not a "modified server", it's a genuine game proxy mod. It's running on a fresh install of Build 23.. paintball2 and gamei386.so untouched.

I stand corrected. :P
