Title: Dont Use Internet Explorer
Post by: Zorchenhimer on October 19, 2008, 03:55:57 PM
I hate Internet Explorer.  You should too.  Why?  For kicks I just ran all the major web browsers though a CSS3 test.  IE7 did the worst with 330 passed test out of a total 578 tests (13 out of 43 selectors), or if you are still in school that would be an F (57%).  I'm surprised how bad Firefox did though, coming in second worst with 373 of 578 tests passed (36 of 43 selectors - 64.5%).  The other three major browsers (Opera, Safari, and Google's Chrome) passed with flying colors (100% passed).

Do you have IE7?  See for yourself:

I use Opera since 3-4 years.

How many points get the browsers by the ACID3 test?

http://acid3.acidtests.org/

Internet Explorer 7.0.6000.16757: 5/100
Firefox 2.0.0.17: 51/100
Opera 9.60: 85/100

I've been using it on my laptop as the main browser to see what it can do.  So far I like it.  Although there are some things missing (adblock, etc), but it's still in beta.

Edit:
BAHAHAHA

IE 7.0.5830.13

The sad thing is, a lot of software developers require IE to run.  We have 2 in our work environment, so we are standardized on IE.

Here's something really funny:  I personally run IE8 B2 at work.  If I have to go to any of MicroShaft's support sites, I have to load up FF to see them as IE8 won't render them properly.

IE8 should still be in alpha.  It doesn't render anything correctly.

Edit:
Just DL'd it, and they fixed some things.  Either way, it still fails that acid test - 21/100.  :P

Google makes money off of advertising.
Google makes Google Chrome.

Somehow, I don't see that being a lucrative feature.  Unless, of course, it blocks everything but Google ads.

I don't mind the text ads too much.

IE7 on my computer doesnt work anymore. If I open it it takes me to a website to download some antivirus whihc is really a virus. If I try to change the page, it turns itself off or it just takes me back to the antivirus download page again its really friggin annoying.  so i use safari which kiks arse.

A lot of the internal web apps used in my company will only run in IE, there is even an old MS JVM dependancy, which my friend is adamant is now illegal for whatever reason.

Well, Microsoft got sued by Sun about it, although that doesn't make it illegal...

I have a check scanner running some specialised software that still requires the MS JVM. PITA!!!!!

Honestly, the MS JVM was better than the sun version... except for the fact that it wasn't compatible with anything else.

The whole employee billing system of my 40k+ employee company requires the MS JVM. My weekly support tickets about Firefox incompatibility are typically met with "use IE".

besides my new good comp, i have an OLD custom home made comp (OLD) that is still running IE 4. its not supper fast but unlike all my newer comps witch at some time or another have crasher or frozen, the old one has never given me a problem, never even frozen up, I'm running it on a 6MB LAN. it took some time to get it compatible with anything other than Dial up lol. i love to play with the old comps, with some work i find they can be Reilly good.
