Title: New Map: Flooded Bunker
Post by: UDead on December 06, 2008, 03:41:48 PM
.:Flooded::Bunker:.
---------------------------------------
This map is not done and is not lit. The map is small, but I might expand it a little bigger when I get to that step. This is just a rough of the map so its not gonna be the best.

the 2 ways r way uneven. by that i mean it takes more then double the time it takes 2 go the main then using the water route

The water route is gonna be closed, that area is the jail. Like I said before its a rough of the map, so its not gonna look good.
----------------------------------

Beta one  still not lit but some changes.

Any Suggestions?

This map gives even a reasonably high-end machine heart failure with reflective water turned on.  Partly because it's not vised, and partly because you have so many different water surfaces on there.  Water should really be flat and only at one level.  The transparent stone area looks really weird.  The bases will be way too easy to defend, as there's only one tiny entrance.

ok, I'll see what I can do with the water and the entry.

--------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think I should add on or do to it? I still want to keep the inside of the brick area because that is the area for the jail, and I still want to keep some water in it like maybe a half of an inch of water all around there there is water already to keep with the title of the map.

From the screens I'd say:
a) more entrances. That 1st screen shows how easy it would be to just camp in the corner and wait for someone to just hop up out of the water.
b) It's not really going to work because shooting in water is ridiculously slowwww and you have to have a certain amount of luck to be able to shoot/kill in water.
c) It doesn't really look like a bunker. I'm not sure what it looks like, there's just not a lot in it - it looks empty.
d) Don't use semi-opaque stone textures! use the plain white texturs with trans33 or trans66. I think 33 looks better - but it's been a while since i used bsp!

Keep it up, you've come a long way from myhouse.bsp

EDIT

oh, and, even if you can't be bothered, always light the map AS you make it, not after so that vising is just natural.

A heck of a lot better - it would be really easy to camp, still at the base.

Out of interest, where does the flag go (as I'm on the wrong comp to download the map atm), i mean, if team A grabs, do they cap at team b? If so, then it would be near-impossible to cap

What,...if team red grabs teams blue flag and takes it back to there home base they get a point, visversa. Only team red and score at team reds base with blues flag or the white flag, and visversa.

Still not lit? Stop wasting our time with your unfinished maps.

That’s not how I work, I like to get everything done then mess with lighting the map, so is the map is lit when I'm mapping I don't have to worry about the lights getting in my way or having to resize a light. and also when I'm mapping in BSP the tree boxes that show your grid of the map that is see thought, any brush you create creates a outline and the more outlines you have or one or another the more harder it gets to map so please let me map the way I like to and please stop getting on my case about lighting the map because I will do that later. Thank-You

UDead, the simple fact is that its has been said MANY TIMES that beta maps should be full-compiled. This means VIS and RAD. If that's not the way you work, don't release it on the forums until you feel ready to light it. We don't want to see some horrible-looking unlit map.

You obviously haven't read any of the tutorials and guides on making maps and after wasting my time looking at it, I'm starting to wonder if you'd ever seen water in your life. In the real world, the magic of gravity means you can't normally have freestanding 45-degree faces of water. More importantly, it's an extremely bad idea to have water on more than 1 plane as each reflective water plane doubles the number of polygons drawn. This probably accounts for your ridiculously high r_speeds, not to mention the fact you didn't even bother to VIS it.

Sort your attitude and compiling out, preferably in that order.

Don't encourage flaming, despite the fact that UDead is being a douuche.

LoL, I'm not encouraging flaming. I'm just trying to put out the fire here. A little humor, maybe they both will see how dumb and silly it is and laugh it off. (At least I hope so)

OK you said don't encourage flaming, you are trying to start one by calling me a douuche. so take your own advice and back off, I'm not trying to start no fight/argument I'm just stating my point and my point only.

UDead, no-one else here is fighting but you.  If you are not willing to take advice from other people, then i suggest that you forget about mapping.  Advice is the thing that helps you along the way.  Now just do me a BIG favor.  Read tutorials like you have been told MANY times.  If you fail to do so, more negative feedback is going to come your way and you will not be successful.  End of story.
