Whenever i try to run the game it says "error during intialization. make sure you have an open gl capable video card and all the latest drivers installed." My card is open gl capable and i went online and downloaded the drivers. any ideas?

Make sure its enabled. If you have an xp then right click the desktop and go to properties>settings>advanced>adapter>properties.
If it's disabled then enable it. If that doesn't work, then use the troubleshoot option there.

the video card is enabled and troubleshoot was useless like always
-
i can run quake2 but i cant run DP. WTF?

Quake 2 starts up in DirectX by default. Check to see if you can switch the game to OpenGl successfully from the video options, or if it gives you an error. If it gives you an error, I would update the opengl drivers for your card.
