Big Hello All,
As some of you may know I'm not to good at this game. I've been playn' for many years now and still I seem to be gettn' my *** kick on a daily basis.
I looking for any wisdom, console commands, window tweek programs, etc that will enable me to kick your *** :).
I do play via gamespy, 32 nriva card, and the massive 56k modem so my ping always seems to be high and I do get alot of lag. I think it's the donkey in my puter.
Hoping to get some great tips and always my pleasure.

I'll train you for a mere $19.99/HR.

Give me 5 bux and I'll tell you to go get high speed online... Give me another 5 bux and i'll tell you how to optimize your system. ;D
(give me another 5 bux and I'll tell you to get another computer!) ;D ;)

First you might want to check your rate.
Just type 'rate' in the console and see what comes up, it probably defaults to 2500 if you are using q2dp. For a 56k modem you can probably push it up to 4500 or so (that's what i use).
Next check 'cl_maxfps', for dialup it should be set to 60.
If you are using the new alpha3/4 try these commands...
cl_locknetfps 0
cl_cmdrate 60
rate 4500
Now for either you need to turn mouse sensitivity up as high as you can stand it...
try this
sensitivity 14
m_filter 1
tinker with the sensitivity level depending on your mouse/system.
Hope this helps.

that reminds me...
how do you show the fps? is it cl_showfps? that doesn't work for me...

When I'm on 56k I use rate 52000. Get more out of the server I don't know why you can't even set it to 56k in the menu! They only stop at 33.6k I mean c'mon how old is quake2?! They should make 3.21 with an easier way to set the rate for the dial-upers today. :-/

Quake2's pretty old :)
cl_drawfps is the command to draw the framerate on the HUD.
