Title: Automatic Equipment Pick-Up System
Post by: RoBbIe on July 21, 2009, 03:24:14 AM
Any equipment on the ground that is better than the equipment you're carrying can be automatically replaced
Title: Re: Automatic Equipment Pick-Up System
Post by: abnormal on July 21, 2009, 04:29:56 AM
It would be good for hoppers and barrels, but in my opinion not for guns..
Title: Re: Automatic Equipment Pick-Up System
Post by: Cameron on July 21, 2009, 06:46:16 AM
I don't like it.  Sometimes I like to try and pick someone with a poor barrel, and then I pick up an accurate one?  It would just get frustrating.

Why? Then there wouldn't really be a need for anything except 200 hoppers and autocockers.

IMO I like playing with what I get, and maps with guns like VM's and trracers that aren't used as much are more fun.

Post by: i_am_a_pirate on July 21, 2009, 01:17:41 PM
I think it's a great idea - I mean, maybe not for guns because some of the time i want a trracer over a VM-68, or an autococker over an automag. But who ever wants to have a 100 hopper over a 200 hopper? or a bad barrell over a good barrell?
Title: Re: Automatic Equipment Pick-Up System
Post by: RoBbIe on July 21, 2009, 06:17:22 PM
It could also be able to be switched on and off, depending if you like it that way or not, I think it will be better for some players, the others that dont like it can just go to settings and disable it,

is it that hard to bind dropgun and dropbarrel?

yes it is, i don't like having 4 bind for dropping different equipment,

list of bind that is a waste and can be fixed with this

1- Gun drop
2. Co2 drop
3. Barrel drop
4. Hopper drop

Everytime i want to drop something, i have to take my hand off my mouse which could easy get me killed, It is very annoying

Why'd you want to drop co2?

Go into you config file and put "bind "key" dropgun; dropbarrel; drophopper; dropco2"

When you press the 'key' all of your equipment, except for ammo, will be dropped.
Title: DP Auto pick up
Post by: CrazyCooter on July 28, 2009, 12:56:36 PM
Sooo i've heard that jitspoe or someone is talkin about creating an auto pick up. Which to my understand is that if you start off with for example VM-68 and you walk over say a carbine it automatically picks up the carbine. Now the main problem i see with this would be the difference between the Autococker and the Carbine. Some people rather have a carbine than an autococker and visversa. I don't see this playing out so well. i personally would choose a carbine over a cocker anyday just cause thats what i prefer. Same goes for barrels. the black barrel is clearly the better barrel but idk.. some people might like the steel one beter. hmm..
Title: Re: DP Auto pick up
Post by: RoBbIe on July 28, 2009, 01:00:40 PM
the steel and black are the same barrel, And the auto pick up should be able to be turned off if you dont like it, or if possible make it customizable to what you like best

You must have a terrible, terrible control scheme.

I've got dropgun/reloadco2 on the mouse wheel, drop hopper and barrel on the numbers above my movement keys. Your hand should never ever leave your mouse.

So you're all voting against a feature because you don't like somebody?  That's just stupid.

What about the daily questions like this?

[10:54:15] <DPSurfer> and how can i switch weapon
[10:54:24] <nub|> press 1
[10:54:30] <nub|> to drop your weapon
[10:54:35] <nub|> then run over the new weapon
[10:54:40] <nub|> to pick it up
[10:54:55] <DPSurfer> num block or ovre keys ?
[10:55:29] <nub|> over keyss

Who makes the list which weapon is the best? There is only one option: Each user must make the list himself.
If not, we have something like expert mode all the time.

EDIT: Saw, that u wrote "...a prioritized order of weapons." in the notes. It sounds like u want make it later (a few builds after this feature has been implemented) as a tweak or an own feature, but that is a must have.

Could you make it so that each user can preset their list, that way each person gets what they want. And if they want to pr0 pgp they can still drop guns like before. Also if you would make this for guns it would be nice to have it for other items (hoppers, barrels)

it is already for all equipment lol, thats includes hopper and barrel's.

And it will have a list already made, then if you want to can change it in control's or something to what you like (for example change the cocker from the best gun to 2nd and adding the carbine as the best)

Overall, if it were to be implemented, in my opinion it would have to be a user setting, first of all to turn it on and off, but secondly to choose which items to apply it to.
Title: Re: Automatic Equipment Pick-Up System
Post by: jitspoe on September 01, 2009, 08:02:17 PM
My idea was to have it customizable (for the weapons, at least) so you could specify what priority to pick weapons up in.  Maybe a list like:

pgp,trracer,stingray=vm,spyder,carbine=autococker=automag

That would mean if you had a trracer and walked over a spyder, you'd auto-swap to the spyder, but if you had a carbine or autococker and walked over an automag, you'd have to drop it in order to pick up the automag, since they were equal on the priority list.

You could also do something like just

pgp

Then it wouldn't pick up any weapon, so you don't have to worry about inadvertently picking up a gun when you're PGPing.

For weapons, if lists can be made for individual priorities of anyone, I think that's another great idea.

For hoppers or barrels simple enable/disable imo would suffice.
Title: Re: Automatic Equipment Pick-Up System
Post by: T3RR0R15T on September 02, 2009, 11:20:01 AM
Maybe have two or more profiles for that. It would be much easier to change to another profile as to type in the complete list again and again.

And this is why I would like this as well.

http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=16279.0

Brothers or sisters may play the game, and if this setting is just for the game, it would continuously change as people prefer different guns, etc.  That way you can personalise it for each profile, not affecting the other one.

What's wrong with it? You should be able to set a priority level for the items. For example, items that YOU set to be the same won't switch with each other. You'll have to manually pick them up. If YOU set the PGP to have a higher priority level than the automag or autococker, then you wont pick up the automag or autococker. Same thing with barrels, hoppers, etc.

I think an easier way of this priority system would be numbers. Each item has a number. The higher the number, the higher the priority. Items with the same number have the same priority. For example, if the Trracer has a priority level of two and the Autococker has a priority level of two, then they will have the same priority level and you'll need to drop the Trracer if you wanted to switch to the Autococker. Remember that he's/she's not being specific with what kind of equipment, so he's/she's generalizing the word equipment. This feature can also be easily turned off. There should be two radio buttons, one that says "turn on priority feature" and one that says "turn off priority feature". When the feature is turned off, the PGP will have a priority level of one and the rest of the weapons will have a priority level of two. "No hopper" will have a priority level of one and the rest of the hoppers will have a priority level of two. Same thing with the rest of the equipment. For equipment that is optional to have like hoppers. You don't need to have a hopper. So items that people don't need to have will have an item called "no hopper", "no barrel", "no CO2", etc. People that want challenging gameplay can set "no hopper" to have a priority level of 2 and the rest of the hoppers to have a priority level of 1. Same thing with the rest of them. However, paintball markers can't have an item called "no marker" because you can't get rid of your PGP. When someone installs the game for the first time then the priority system will assume that the person is a noob and will set the priority levels with low end items having a low priority and high end items having a high priority. The person can change this when ever he/she wants. I think features that can easily be turned off and on should automatically be implemented into the game. For those who don't want it can turn it off and those who do want it (like me) can turn it on.

A shorter way to put it is that when the priority feature is turned off. The feature automatically sets it self so that it is the way that it was before it gets implemented. For example; since that this feature is not implemented (right now), the game only switches equipment when you don't have any and the game only switches markers when you have the PGP. That is what it should be like when the feature is turned off.

I'll make my post shorter by dividing it.

That system seems hard. It should be a number system. If you give something a higher number, then it will have a higher priority. If you give something a lower number, then it will have a lower priority. Items with the same number as each other have the same priority as each other.

This feature can be easily turned off. there can be two radio buttons. One that says "on" and another that says "off". When the feature is off. The game acts like the way it was when this wasn't implemented. In other words, if you have nothing or a PGP (generalizing nothing); you will swap with something. If you have something or not a PGP (generalizing something), you'll have to drop the item to swap with another.

What if you hated it and Jitspoe, Calathran, or Dirty Taco submitted this? Whould you give it a -1 then? Is hating someone a good reason to give a vote a -1? Jitspoe intended this game to be fast paced and high speed. This feature will help with that because you don't have to get your hand off your mouse to pick something up.

You can also set priority levels. If you preffer the brass barrel over the steel barrel, then you can set it so that it would trade the steel for brass. It will work with other items/weapons too.
