I just downloaded the game today, I booted it up and all I got was a white screeen, and the game freezes.
I'm running an AMD Athlon 64bit 3800+
GeForce 6600 256 mb
1gb ram

Cant be a hardware problem..
what freezes exactly, and how far do you get? do you see the menu or not?
-
May be some OpenGL probelm if the menu is not showing up at all
-
3rd person with this complain in short time (after Dec and me)
-
Is it just build 16 that freezes, or do earlier builds do it, too?
-
hm.. Im not sure. I've just tested my new pc with build15 and b16 now. I think ive also had those problems with build 16. But maybe this problem doesnt show up anymore when build 16 is on the servers?!
-
I wonder if it has anything to do with the vsync fix. In build 14 it was always stuck on, until you turned it on and off again. Build 16 fixed that. Try adding seta gl_swapinterval 1 to the config file.
-
i will try that but you say that its fixed in build 16? Well, that vsync option, i have turned off once and turned it on again then. Its on now. So that also shouldnt be a problem? (i cant test adding seta gl_.... now. Ill do that later.)
EDIT: Seta gl_swapintervall "1" was already on. :/

It could be an overheating issue, then. With the reflective water and new player models, build16 is a lot more demanding on the video card. You could try shutting that all off and see if it's any better:
r_oldmodels 1
r_caustics 0
r_reflectivewater 0

Sometimes i get Blue Screen on my PC. I dont really know if it has to do with this game, i doubt it. Its either an issue with the video card driver or with overheating. My computer is now being used since 2 months and now im going to bring it to the shop for mending.
To your post: Its a little bad for me to test that because my game doesnt freeze everytime i play. But when it once freezes and i restart my computer and pb2 then sometimes it freezes again (overheat? ..comp is still warm?!). So i will try to set this settings after i have to restart my computer the next time.

You might also want to grab something like speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) to check the temperature of your computer. This won't get the temperature of your graphics card, though.

a good air flow is essential for a computer, 1 fan blowing out the back and 1 fan pulling air in, and a case with a side panel which has a ?tunnel? on it which pulls fresh air from outside the case directly to your pc, newer processors actually reuqire that for warrany issues...so ive heard
-
and another thing, that i forgot, dust!!!!dust will slow down performance and can actually cause hardware to fail, blow out your case with compressed air, but dont shake it or tilt it upside down because that excrement gets cold and can cause some damage if used incorrectly, and filters for your fans are awesome, ive seen some, it allows air to come into your case but does a pretty good job on preventing dust from being gaining entry, id invest in one of them if u have a dust issue, but get a washable one, so u dont havw to re-buy some, hope this helps, these cooling fix's are pretty cheap, a good 120mm fan isnt 2 much, and they can light up (ewww ahhh)
