noticed this while playing urt.
if a player says something like "f uck you" the word gets filtered and he gets muted for 30 seconds. the time doubles with each offence. maybe up to 5min? :p
-
There's already a client side word filter. I don't know that muting people is really necessary... I don't imagine that any servers would have this enabled if it were implemented. I could be wrong.
-
Probably not since the current word filter isn't used. If people can't handle swearing, play diff server, diff people, don't play, or ignore all
-
AsThor, what you are proposing isn't a win-win situation. I don't want to give up on my ability to swear because of some idiots that find excessive swearing somehow funny.
What about a spam filter?
- If someone says a fixed amount of stuff in a fixed amount of time, he gets muted for 10 seconds
18:02 newbie: hi
18:07 newbie: !!!
18:07 newbie: !!!
18:08 newbie: !!!
18:08 newbie: lolo
18:08 newbie: omg
18:08 newbie: xD
newbie has been muted for spamming
- If someone repeats something too much, the last allowed repeat -second one in this case- would start blinking instead of letting him flood the chat
18:02 newbie: hi
18:07 newbie: !!!
18:07 newbie: !!! <-- this would be blinking (colored text might ruin this idea)
18:08 newbie: lolo

there's already a spam filter on the public servers. Its up to the admin's to use it.

(I havn't checked this with the new build yet, but)
can we have an in-game menu to turn on/off the swear filter and to add/remove words from it (without the need for seeing all the words). I think this would be very helpful to newbies as one of the reasons they leave is because of swearing, which they don't realise they can turn off.
EDIT
just realised it's on by deafult, so letting them know it's on would be great as well (i.e. having the menu implies it controls something lol)

There are two commands. The first one is "floodprotect" and the other one is "swear_filter", but idk if swear_filter is completely implemented or how it works.

wasn't it cl_swearfilter? Or is there a new server-side one?

cl_swearfilter is a client side filter.
