Title: Build 29
Post by: jitspoe on January 21, 2010, 12:49:50 AM
Windows versions:
Update: http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build029_update_pretest2.exe
Full Install: http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build029_full_pretest1.exe

Linux versions:
Update: http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build029_linux_patch_pretest1.tar.gz
Full Install: http://digitalpaint.org/files/temp/paintball2_build029_linux_full_pretest1.tar.gz

Not much new from build 28 - mostly little tweaks/bug fixes/contributions I wanted to put in before doing an official release.

- Feature/Bugfix: Multi-map demo support.  If you record a demo that spans multiple maps, the game now attempts to play all of them (may have issues with maps that are downloaded while recording). 12:14 AM 1/8/2010
- Feature: "measure" command.  Type "measure" at the console (or bind it to a key) to set a start point (where the crosshair is aiming).  Move the aim point and type it again.  It will output the distance between the points to the console (useful for mappers). 1:50 AM 1/6/2010
- Bugfix: Fix for old scoreboard data/garbage staying on the scoreboard when switching servers.
- Cvar: s_disableonalttab - Enabled by default to keep current behavior of disabling the sound when alt-tabbing out of the game window.  Not fully functional.  Setting it to 0 only seems to work for 3D sound. 12:16 AM 1/8/2010
- Tweak: File lists are sorted. 1:53 AM 1/6/2010
- Tweak: Minor adjustments to footstep sounds.

I might have missed some stuff -- can't remember what all was submitted to the CVS.

- certificated server setting (very easy version)
- server lock option
- new resolutions (1920x1080, 1920x1440, 1366x768)

And here is a patch file: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=15168.msg185610#msg185610

It's the hardware check file again: TR/ATRAPS.Gen

Do u use "Avira AntiVir" Santader, Coltter? I've send the file to Avira. Normally they sent an email with the result in 1-2 days.

What is the server lock option?
Title: Re: Build 29
Post by: T3RR0R15T on January 21, 2010, 11:06:51 AM
U can lock the server (rcon command atm, sv_locked), so nobody can join the server anymore. Could be useful for testserver, matches or cups. Maybe a cvar_set command would be better than a rcon command.

Gotta love overzealous antivirus programs.  I was afraid this would happen.
Title: Re: Build 29
Post by: T3RR0R15T on January 21, 2010, 12:11:56 PM
Its a free and very popular antivirus program in germany :)

U can sent me the files a few days before u make a public release, if u want. I can check them for a false positive virus warning and if it has one, sent the files to avira. So there are no warnings for the normal players, if they update their antivirus program constantly.

It's going to be annoying to do this for every release, though, and what about other virus scanners?

Mute? Server Build?

Virus Check (http://www.virustotal.com/de/analisis/b524f0f23d9225fd34904b97d8c5658dc6785f2afff22a8fb1b5329380fe0f66-1264098274)

Mute comes with build 28.

Found some things:

--> Crash!!!: I can mute and unmute client numbers, which are not on the server. Mute makes a crash and unmute makes crazy letters (see the sshot) on an empty server. Can u maybe add "mute all" / "unmute all"? And the muted client should become a message, when he try to say something. (Like: "You are muted.")
- Is it possible to check for reconnects and automute a muted player again?

--> The maps "crossroad99" and "afterdark" doesn't work anymore.

More enhanced, we should be able to auto-mute by dplogin player number, in a mute.cfg file. Is there a feature-request for something like this yet? If not we could make a request.

Not sure about crossroad99, but I don't think afterdark failing to load is a new issue.  The map simply has too many entities visible.

Can u please fix this three bugs, before u release the linux server update files?

1. rot_file setting doesn't work (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=17377.0) (linux server only)
2. server doesn't load the map-gravity (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=18699.0) (linux server only)
3. sky hr4 download doesn't work (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=18654.0)

Tested the multi-map demos a little bit.

It works good on normal servers, but if a server has the setting "g_autorecord 1" or "g_autorecord 2" and a server password, the demo stopped after changing the map and it starts a new demo. Can u make, that it doesn't stop the demo, if a recording is already running?
If i play the demos, i get this rarely (after a mapchange):

Netchan_Transmit: dumped unreliable
Delta from invalid frame (not supposed to happen!).
Delta frame too old.

The multi-map demo support is not necessarily fully functional, so it's better to keep different maps as separate demos (plus it makes the demos easier to watch).  I mainly added this because somebody had a recording of a cheater that was on the second map of the demo.  Even then, I couldn't get it to work, because there was a map download between maps.  There are probably a lot of things that break it.  I'm surprised I got it working at all.  It doesn't seem very high priority, so I probably won't work on it much more, if at all.

Fixed the mute crashes and some readme stuff in pretest2.  Created a full install as well (uploading now).  Linux version is almost done.  I got distracted trying to fix some video driver bugs.

Download links are in the first post.

Edit:

Has paintball2_build029_full_pretest1.exe the fixes from paintball2_build029_update_pretest2.exe ?
If yes, its a little bit confusing with pretest1 and 2 :-\
It would be easier with pretest2 on each file or another ingame build number (maybe 29.1, 29.2, 29.3...).

Probably won't happen... but it works on x86_64 with no problems as long as you have all the required i386 libraries installed.
Title: Re: Build 29
Post by: jitspoe on February 17, 2010, 02:12:59 PM
Linux update added and linked in the first post.  I might do a 64 bit version one day, but that's just one more thing to maintain every release, and since Paintball2 doesn't use more than 2 gigs of memory, there's really no need for it to be 64 bit.

That's nothing new - happens when you try switch the r_oldmodels setting without a vid_restart (or maybe if you have it set without the old models).

r_oldmodels 0
vid_restart

What's more interesting is the box edges around the sky.  What video card do you have?

Edit: Full Linux version is up.  Unless there are major issues, I'll be putting this up as an official release.

How works the g_autobalance setting? I've set it to 2, but i can switch between the teams.

There is one thing again with the mute feature. It looks like u get the maxclients value and make only this player id's available to mute, not only the "active" player id's. It's ok, but the player id's beginn with 0 instead of 1. With maxclients 16, i can mute the id's 0-16 (=17 id's). It should be maxclients-1. Or better only the active id's, that i don't get a lot of garbage like this:

Wow, didn't know S3 was still around, or is your graphics card just really old?  You can most likely upgrade, but that's a discussion for another thread.  Looks like the drivers don't support texture clamping correctly.

Its still not the same. Its only good when i install build 19 or 21 and go on my server. then when i join a public server ( if it allows me ) it changes them into bundle of twigs sounds.

didnt even need to read recon back then because i could tell from the sounds but now its useless could aswell play without any sounds

i have to agree with rockie . imo jitspoe should be supposted to to make any new sound confg .. or put the old sound cfg (ofc with new sounds) to the new builds ... nowadays i am supposted to play without any sounds cause when i am in enemy base so i hear steps of enemy guy in home base and then i start shoot to the place where i though enemy is ....

so , please , jitspoe add it to feature vote =)

There are a lot of sounds since build 20, that doesn't exist before. U need to make a blank file for each one, if u dont want them. The game downloads not existing (new) sounds automatically from the server.

Rocky: What sounds are you having difficulty hearing?  You can only hear footsteps and gunshots?  If you have old sounds, it shouldn't download the new ones over them.  There are, however, new footstep sounds per-surface, so there are metal, wood, grass, etc. footstep sounds.  Is that what you're complaining about?  That should make it easier to identify where people are, not harder.

Perhaps you need to get build 30 out ASAP with fixes to these errors, to keep these people playing the game.
