1. I'm tired of playing Quake 1 in software mode and I heard that there's a ton of problems with GLQuake. Are there alternatives?
2. Is it possible to play Quake 1 and 2 online?
3. Where can I get a version of BSP designed for Quake 2 and where can I get textures for Quake 2 so I can make maps for it.
4. Is it possible to port maps from Paintball 2 to Quake 2 and vice versa?
-
1. dunno
2. yes, for q2 atleast. There used to be only a way that u had to enter IP manually, but i believe there is a mod with serverlist now
3. google
4. yes (look at all the jump maps)
-
there are tonloads of gl clients for quake 1, darkplaces for instance

If I want to make maps for Quake 2 I will need two copies of BSP on my computer (one for Paintball 2 and one for Quake 2). Is this OK?
I heard that when you make a map for Quake 2, the textures will automatically be included in the .BSP file. Does this mean that if I create a Quake 2 map with my own textures, I won't have to copy and paste them onto the other computers in my home when I want to do a LAN game?
Which folder do I put my finished Quake 2 maps so I can play them on a LAN server with my friends?
Does Quake 2 have support for HR4 textures?
-
yes (although you don't actually need 2 copies)
might be possible using some old, lost hack, but for all intents and purposes, no, you'll need the textures. in .wal format, unless you're using an enhanced engine like kmquake2
baseq2/maps or base/maps... come on.
depends on the engine

I tried putting the map in the maps folder created by BSP. I'm able to compile and test it using Quake 2, but it doesn't show up on the map list for creating a LAN server.
Is it possible to extract the EXUX textures from the .pak folders? Jitspoe told me that it is not OK to distribute them, but since I have a legitimate, physical copy and have the textures on my computer, I would assume it would be OK to extract them and use them in Paintball 2 jump maps because I hate the annoying, grey grid.

odd. sounds like sv_pure but i don't think q2 has that :s
use pakexplorer or w/e, but you'll just get fugly textures because they're paletted and paintball has a different palette to q2

I preffer my hand set to center because my gun is a lot more accurate (it still shoots a little bit bellow the crosshair). I also preffer my gun model to be visible on the HUD instead of a small square. That is why I use this bind.
alias +centershoot "hand 2; +attack"
alias -centershoot "hand 0; -attack"
bind mouse1 +centershoot
Unfortunately, when ever Quake 2 closes, it forgets those binds, which is why I have to reenter them when ever I start up Quake 2.
Can I make Quake 2 remember those binds?
-
yes, write them to your config
-
yes, write them to your config
I did. It works the first time I open up Quake 2 but on the second time it deletes the commands so I have to edit the config again. There's also two configs. Which one do I edit?
-
make an autoexec file
-
make an autoexec file
What's that?
odd. sounds like sv_pure but i don't think q2 has that :s
I tried entering that command but I just end up chatting.

"Most players use an autoexec.cfg file in there C:\quake2\baseq2\ directory. This file addes extra commands onto the config.cfg file that is already in that directory."
so just create it
