First time I heard this song was on a freewebs DP clan page in about 2006. In general, I am not a green day fan at all, but I have a lot of time for that song.

I liked their Thrift Store song back when it was just a few friends that really knew about it, and it was a parody making fun of all the stupid, expensive clothes that people wear to clubs and whatnot... funny concept and a catchy chorus.

Now they've gone stupid mainstream and have soundtracks in every other movie trailer... movies that have nothing to do with thrift stores. It doesn't even make sense. The magic is gone. Now I know what it feels like to be a hipster.

The Can't Hold Us one is kinda focused more on a journey, because in teh music video for that song, the guys trying to put his flag on top of the really tall thing (Forgot what its called xD) in Seattle. I like both songs really well, but I like the music in Can't Hold Us a little more. :)

John Frusciante's solo work is pretty good too. You should have "Shadows Collide With People" and "Curtains". The rest is good too, but these are my favorites.

Sure, his solo albums will never reach a level like "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" or "By The Way", but I don't regret that I bought them.

What exactly do you mean by "music like that"? o.O Oddly tribal sounding rock? I don't think there's any one reason for people liking it. It's just what I happened to be listening to (that band and some others) as a teenager, and I remember reading somewhere that generally your music tastes are more or less fixed by about 20. And to be honest, I agree with that comment, the rest of that album is a bit weird, but that song really stuck in my head :)

First of all, you've gotta choose a better name for your song. When's the last time the Royals won the World Series? They should have named their song "Yankees" or "Giants."

Now the real reason why this song is crap. Sure, the vocals are pretty good in this song. But go beyond that, and it's an empty, barren song. The ONLY other instrument throughout is percussion or whatever you call that. And even that is only one measure of kick on downbeat and synthesized snap on upbeat, looped throughout the song. That's IT.

I don't like where pop music is going. It has become too vocal-oriented. Instead of hiring a professional drummer or guitarist, many of these pop artists will create drum beats and chord changes on their Mac and loop them. I know I'm guilty of doing that too, but if I were a professional musician, I wouldn't be this lazy. Think of all the great jazz songs throughout history. Those composers know what the intercourse they're doing. Some pop artists like Lorde are new to the game and need to learn some real compositional skills before the Grammys give anything to them.
