Ok,
(CPU 1) Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz (Microprocessor) @ 2793MHz (533MHz FSB)
and i have 512 mb of ram. So will it work fine with my pc?
-
Dude, please don't tell me you have a Dell... :P
Yeah, it looks like you got what it takes, double-check that you have an open PCI slot though before you go buying something for it.
-
i know i do. i recived a 256 ati radion something in the mail from a friend of s8n's only to find i dont have a pci-e. so anyone who wants to buy it gimme 5$ plus shipping and the ati is yours.
-
I might buy for 5 bucks. It is perfect for your comp.
-
Smokey, sorry to shatter your hopes, but that Video Card (the FX 5500) is seriously crap. It has the engine of a FX5200, and isnt much better than that. The FX-Series was a lot worse than the Geforce4 Ti Series as well, and those are very very old already. If I were you, I'd not buy anything with an FX5500 in it, no matter what the specs say.
-
well, any pci cards that are 256 mb and not like 300$?
-
PCI cards in general probably aren't going to perform that well, so spending big bucks on a high end card for a PCI slot is probably a waste.
-
i only have a pci slot, the best game i want to play is bf2, but i doubt it....
-
Smokey, dont listen to pure, the only games you play are dp and like tremulous. My card now can handle those, so that card will be better. It will be fine
-
do you guys think buying a new motherboard would work? the guy who gave me the card suggested it ::)

My board lacks an AGP slot, by the end of the year I wouldn't be suprised if all new motherboards lacked an AGP slot.

if you were to get a mobo for a dell you need to do some much crap, they have terrible hardrives, etc. its complicate, no point in upgrading them besides a vid card

Smokey..get the same card i have. 50 bucks, 200-300 fps in dp, 50 fps in et and warsow.
-
So ya, out of all those ones that i'v listed pick the one that would be the best for bf2. =]
-
I haven't read anything, because I don't want to.
However, if you have not bought this yet I'll sell you mine. It's good (I believe) and it's PCI.
Get at me next time you see me active on irc.
-
The deal is a friend of mine sent Smokey a video card that will definately play BF2 plenty well.
Smokey just doesn't have a motherboard that has pciExpress on it.
Option #1:
Buy a motherboard that will fit everything you currently have AND has a pciXpress slot on it.
Nothing major about this. You go to newegg.com and look up a motherboard that matches what you need.
Option #2:
Send the vid card back and do something else.
This option is going to cost you alot more money.
You are not going to find a PCI card that is going to be strong enough to handle BF2. Hell the best AGP card out (7800 GS OC) can just compfortably handle BF2 as it is.
If you need help getting a new MoBo just msg me on IRC and i'll look at it for ya.
Or...if you are serious....we have a hardware guru in our BF2 team that will be glad to specifically spec something out for you if you post to him, Verncat, on our forums. http://teamc3forums.aspire.ws/default.aspx
He maintains a nice hardware section on our website aswell http://teamc3.aspire.ws/VerncatsCorner/tabid/63/Default.aspx

i want a new mobo but i dunno, i have a pos dell so its a challange.
-
You just need one that is workable with your hard drive and excrement, you need an intel mobo first of all, just look at the socket type and whatever.
-
[15:22:05] <@lords8n> Socket 487 motherboards are not available with pci Express16
-
Socket 487? Wtf is that?
I haven't seen a Socket 478 with PCI-E ever, only PCI.
-
no idea, but s8n came upon http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143059 as the best choice.
-
Yeah, that'll hold you over till you get a new box.
