An alternative wording of the question would be, "Do you want to hear a bunch of 10 year olds screaming, 'Hacks!', 'Cheater!', etc. while playing?" :)

Make sure you add a MUTE option beside each player's name and a way for the person that is being muted to see who has him muted.  That way when a person is muted he doesn't continue trying to talk to you.

I don't want it so you can talk crap etc. Make an option to where you can only hear team mic or whatever.

well if in the game if some one is really annoying you could developer a system for audio silence like if 70% of people playing vote yes to make them mute they are mute for a day in that server and maybe if they are always annoying vote from forum could permanently mute there character or maybe for a couple of weeks or so until they understand to shut up and besides how many 10 year olds do you know that play DP and parents will buy them a MIC

This sounds good... but i doubt it would help tactical play at all.
However maybe only if you join a "channel" in game.
Title: Re: In-Game Mic Vote
Post by: WarWulf on March 01, 2007, 01:19:45 PM
if your going to add in chat to dp.. please make it channel based...

like maybe 3 channels for red team, 3 channels for blue team, and 3 general channels.

soo lets say you just wanna talk with your friends... and everyone on your team is on 1 specific channel you can just goto an empty one..

If you just want to talk to your friends, you might as well use ventrilo or some other external program that already has channels.

well personally id rather use phone recon.. (vontage ftw) i was just trying to make suggestions for things you should add if you do add mic support...  soo no need for an external program..

Well, the games laggy enough as it is at times, adding mic chat ingame going to make it worser. And i dont want to listen to 10 - 14 year olds. TS and Vent are a better option.

Sure... kids yeling at all time CHEATER or NOOB.... :S
You can easily have a free Ts server ... So i don't find the utility to set an in-game Mic system...

no, use in-game team speak for those with microfones, its way beter, or just get teamspeak and use that

haha, very funny, and probably true, but also there should be a "mute player" command that goes along with it... and i think if there is a mic feature, it should be on a "token sequence" kinda like token ring in networking, except you must be the first person to have held the defined "mic talk" key, and you may talk for a given amount of time, once that time expires or you let go of the bind, then communication from your spot ends, which is pretty much JUST LIKE the G.S.A. chat rooms....

or in game sound effects, like in the console you type "sound 27" and a sound like laughter or "hey, you see that guy? he wet his pants! Hahaha!", and all the other players hear it

but this isn't voting on teamspeak or ventrillo, were voting on a mic in the game, mic in the game is nothing like ventrillo and teamspeak, thats just software, an in game mic would be nice, granite, i agree, alot of people would get annoying real quick, which is the purpose of an ignore/mute player option, then, it wouldn't be as bad...

and, the game being laggy is on your end, cannot help it your computer cant handle the specifications, so don't further improve a game because people wanna play this on a p2 or p3, laugh, we should want this game to be the best we can get it, as long as jits and others have time to do it, and even in your quote it says "And i don't want to listen to 10 - 14 year olds.", good, vote for in game mic /w mute player option...

1. He was suggesting TS or Ventrilo as a solution INSTEAD of in-game mic.
2. The game being laggy is a) also server-side(cable-servers), b) based around the INTERNET (it is a common mistake, lag is INTERNET, choppiness/slowdown is computer.)
3. He was talking about internet lag.
4.

1. i understand viciouz but were tlaking about in-game mic, so lets keep on the in-game mic...everyone knows about ts, and vent
2. well, when i ping 400, my pc runs it like a champ still, my shots only lag....the game is not slow...
3. i didnt know what he meant by computer lag or internet lag, so ill leave this one alone
4. that makes perfect sense, im saying just cuss people play on old ass computers (and there are alot) is no reason to stop making this game better..graphics,tweaks, whatever..

well don't tell me how and where to post, i post anywhere i think i have a comment, you don't see me in C Programming do you ?? but i understand what you mean...

I think it would be cool to have an in-game mic. Just, there has to be a mute button, otherwise there would be a bunch of annoying 12 year olds complaining about stuff just because they suck.
Title: Re: In-Game Mic Vote

In a full server everyone would be fighting for the chance to talk....
i think the in-game mic should be for match servers only for team recon use.

If this is implemented to mute it should be ignore <#> just like it is now to ignore someone's text.

To turn it off a cvar should probably be made.

What's wrong with ventrilo?  I use it regularly with friends and it has very good sound quality.  It's also nice to be able to communicate outside of the game so you can collaborate on which server to join, etc.

i vote for no because just as viciouz and sharp said ingame mic would make the servers lag even more (even if i turned it off others would cause the lag). I don't want a bigger delay than i already have on an us-server.

That way when a person is muted he doesn't continue trying to talk to you.

i think this is a great idea for an addition to the game i love to use mics to communicate with ppl and if theyre going to whine maybe u can add like a feature that will mute that person to u so u dont hav to listen to them or maybe make it so that u can only communicate with ur team

In World in conflict, when you go to the score board you can click mute all to mute the team or mute certain players by clicking the mute button next to the users nick. Cross team chat should be server specific, as to allow it or not. :)

Just have the match servers set up with sv_alltalk 0, or the equivalent of that which means you can only talk to your team.
