I've made another demo for things to consider revising. I'm also uploading the new version to the beta server. Looks a lot better than before.
-
clipz..... seriously just finish ur map tlc cuz i want to play this map.
This map looks nice too. hopefully u will finish it this time :P
-
Mosez: I will when i get a chance.
BETA 2: http://upload.arena-zone.com/737739
Fixed mid bridge
Fixed lights
Alligned all the wood
Alligned the walls
Scaled down the bottom of the tower
Raised the ladders
Made a transition texture for grass :)
One room the walls dont line up perfectly im thinking about putting a wood banner around it.
-
Ok, what editor are you using? It's like every single brush in the whole map has different alignment/scaling/offsetting. If your editor has some kind of option to lock textures or something, you need to shut that crap off or use a different editor. There are also a bunch of brushes that look like they're overlapping still. It is looking better, though. I made another demo:
-
he uses quark, even though it obviously intercourses things up
-
Yeah, i dont understand why everything is out of scale in different areas.... i don't even touch the scales. The stone allignment confuses me because there one wall how do they unalign? *confused* yeah the wood texture on the bridge was pissing me off couldnt get it right :(
The ladder i dont know why it does not work properally on that one side.
This is most likely my last map with quark then I guess it time to read about bsp.
-
I'm guessing quark is doing something funky when you scale/move brushes around. There's probably a way to disable that, but you'd have to ask FourthX. I've never used quark before. If you want to switch to BSP, I can give you a run through on how to fix all those errors, though.
-
Yeah i cant even locate the guy :(
This is the last map im going to FINISH with quark.
Then im going to hit the BSP books. Im guessing its going to be kind of tough to convert but ill pull it off :P
-
from the looks of it, you should have no problem at all transfering from quark, you know you can always ask me for help on the basics :p
-
Yeah i know :)
Sorry if the link didnt work for a while.
Here again BETA #3:
http://upload.arena-zone.com/373304
Changed sky to evening.
Scaled the grass/dirt ramps :)
Scaled the high part on tower
Fixed the light allignments
Fixed the overlapping brushes on the bridge.
Jits: i still have no clue why the stones looking funky.
I know there are little things here and there to fix left, There all things you dont even notice unless your looking for them. I dont know about a next beta might just be the final release.
-
Quark must have a way to set the offset/scale/rotation of textures on a surface. Just set them all to 1 for scale and 0 for offset and rotation (except the stuff you've specifically aligned) and you should be good. Also, the grass/dirt transition texture needs to be aligned on a lot of stuff -- it only has the grass on the bottom on most of them and a hard edge where the dirt meets the grass on top.
Now that you've got a sky with a sun in it, you should use arghrad's sun lighting. I have angles for different skies posted here: http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Sun+Angles
You probably want to give it a slight orange tint since it's a sunset sky. Don't go overboard. I'd make a small map just to test with to get the lighting right before you mess with it on your main map.
I'm going to see if I can run quark and figure out how to fix the texture alignment. It's easy to do in bsp -- you can just select by texture and apply new textures to everything. I don't know that quark has that functionality, though, so you may be stuck fixing each face manually.
-
Ok, I took a look at quark, here's the magic button you need to push to fix all your rock and metal textures (basically everything you don't want aligned to a specific location):
-
sweet ill get to that on later on been hella busy lately
-
There is also a fit-to-face button, which i found really usefull for the boxes, until I tried copying and pasting them without locking the textures.

This is FINAL ive done what i can.
-
It's up -- alternatively http://maps.ch1ll.com/eclissi.bsp
-
It's on GRaFFiTi now as well... Not bad... reminds me of the Shazam series...
-
Now start learning BSP so you can have all those pesky textures aligned on your next map! ;)
-
Yeah i have 2 more im releasing them as
1 TLC
2 TLC 2 (death match) There are buildings and a subway almost done it
-
You can make a single map support multiple game modes if that's all that's different.
-
Hmm can you clarify that one a little better for me?
-
If you want a map to support both DM and CTF, for example, you can put "gamemode" "5" in the worldspawn. That means it supports gamemode 1 (DM) + gamemode 4 (CTF). Then you can make all your flags, bases, and team spawns have "gamemode" "4", so they only show up in CTF mode, and create spawns scattered around the map with "gamemode" "1", which will only be present in DM mode.
-
oh yeah i understand that :)
