I have read a number of previous threads, and I have a really simple question that I dindn't see the answer to.
Can you do a double jump from any spot, or do you need a surface to jump up on to, such as the small box, etc. that are common in a number of maps?
-
You cannot do a double jump on a flat plane. So long as there's something to jump off of while you still have upwards momentum from you first jump, you can double-jump.
-
Thank you.
Is there any type of special jump you can do from a flat plane? (not speaking of straifing etc.).
I am thinking for instance of a jump I saw done to get to the flag capture spot from the ground on the rooftop map. Perhaps I am just missing a double jump spot.
Also, on PP! uis the jump from the ground to the barrels and then into the high window a double?
Thanks for the help.
-
Only stafe jumping on flat planes, and are you are thinking of pp1, and no, that is not a double jump.
-
Er yeah, typo, PP1.
And thanks on the clarification. I can do doubles from a raised suface, so I guess I am fine.
I have done the jump from below to get to the high window, hitting the angled ramp. It seems some can go from the floor level to the barrels to the window with some type of jump.

Why do map makers put so much emphasis on jumping? This is a FPS. Where is the emphasis on combat?
One statement. Two very simple questions
.
xpmap fd flag grabs.
Very good questions M7. That should have been answered at download.

Is that a reference to the xbmap? With the double jump to the flag?
-
Thank you much! I was wondering if that little step was not the way they were doing it.
Hm..quite the jump though!

get practicing then m7feettall :P

It's a simple DJ :) it's so easy.

So if the pp1 jump is not a double jump, what is it?
And while I am asking questions, do FPS settings impact jumping?

And while I am asking questions, do FPS settings impact jumping?
1. The jump on PP1 is more of a speed jump.
2. In some cases FPS can impact jumping but I just have my maxfps set at 0 and I jump just fine.
-
The one on pp1 can be done as a speed jump or a small circle jump when standing on the barrel. If i need to i'll post some demos.
-
hm...I have heard of a circle jump...but don't know how it works. That one sounds like the best option since getting to the barrels is pretty easy. I understand circle jumps may not be all that easy though.
Thanks all for this info. It is helpful.

Are you familiar with movement on ice? How you can strafe and turn at the same time, making you go exceedingly fast? Air movement is similar to that, but to a lesser extent. You accelerate faster while turning and strafing, and thus can jump further distances when moving in a slight arc as opposed to straight ahead.
-
Ah ok, makes some sense. So similar to what you would do to hit the upper entrance on PP1 from the lower level.
Thanks!

This has not been a simple fps for a long time. Teams that win are ones that know how to utilize speed and jumping.
-
i wouldnt play this game if i could only walk tbh.

That is my point.
When does or where does a FPS skill set become a winning factor? I find those games much more full of machismo.
-
And while I am asking questions, do FPS settings impact jumping?
I noticed when I used a slow computer a couple years ago that I could not jump as high, and my characters movements looked choppy from everyone else's vantage. I was also using build15 at the time; when I upgraded to build16 it fixed the problem. So I'm not sure if that's your issue.

Then just play those games. Why should DP2 copy all of their styles?
-
You mean just go and play a FPS? Man I thought I was. :-\
Let me know when shooting at someone and evading shots becomes more thrilling then jumping. ::)
-
Jumping IS a technique in evading shots.
-
Agreed. Remember the talk we had about balance in map making. To much the jumping ablilty will dictate the outcome. This is not from evading shots. Right?
