I say yes, not because i smoke (i don't) but if it gets legalized it would boom in the stock market. The weed business would bloom then, buy some stocks of it, basically a get rich fast thing.

idc, it intercourses some people up tho so should be regulated in any case.

weed Will never be legal. If they would make it legal the price would drop by a lot and the bosses don't want to get this way.

These are the best two pro-weed arguments ever. They're probably similar to most of the arguments you'll hear for it, actually.

I believe my argument was legit. I hate smoking personally, but it could be good for our economy.
Title: Re: Should weed be legal
Post by: Eiii on May 05, 2007, 02:26:21 AM
Your argument was more legitimate, but I don't think it would be good for the economy in the long run.

Cigarettes are a TON more addicting than weed. Do you see cigarettes carrying the economy?
There wouldn't be any 'weed stock'. You don't see cigarette stock, you see their umbrella company's stock.

Doesn't really work like that. >_>

What we learned in Health Class:
Marijuana is one of the safest illegal drugs that you can do, not addicting.
The downside, it's a foot in the door for other drugs and some dealers lace, and of course for a lot of people it takes effect as a hallucinogen...so you can hurt yourself and others easily.

Why cant grave digging or sodomizing your best friends wife before she is buried be legal?

These hurt no one and its enjoyable to those who do it.

Whats the harm!

I could stand to profit from either.

The result would be philanthropy.

Cutting and poking dead things is a right!

No matter if it is a body or a plucked bud. Both are dead and taboo. I see no difference.

What do we want "Necrophilia! When do we want it? NOW!"  :(

How many here have self witnessed the long term effects of any drug? You can deal with this:

Uhh, all the marijuana would come in from out of country - Afghanistan, South America etc.  Sure their economies would be booming, but now instead of spending money on American merchandise people are buying foreign drugs.  The lawsuits over laced pot would flood the courts, and the average American dairy farm will now be growing pot, and lots of it.  Grass is green, and weed means green.

Title: Re: Should weed be legal

Skater, you can't compare weed to heroin, it has way different effects than weed. It's basically a double dose of morphine, which just like too much morphine can kill you, and even when it's clean it does damage to your body just like morphine. Have fun urinating after a couple shots.

No drug should be smoked in public, other people get it in them and they don't want it.

I'd be fine with it being sold instead of cigarettes or something, keep the stoners indoors though and don't let them drive.

I'm not saying there's not money to be made, I'm saying it won't boom the economy.
If you want to boom the economy find a way to get gas back under 2 dollars.. (let alone under 3/4 now) and end the war. Better yet, lessen the gap between the wealthy and the poor.
None are in the near future.
Taxing pot would give minimal increases to a state budget, that probably gets wasted on a sub par public school system, and awareness ads against the product they're taxing.

OK...lol
I do smoke weed. Not as much as I once did, but on occasion.

The war on drugs, much of which is focussed on pot, would changed.
The cost of dealing with illegal importing (smuggling) of pot would drop.
The cost of drug enforcement would drop.
The cost of processing convicted pot offenders would drop.
The cost of housing prisoners convected of pot offenses would drop.
A legal market would be established and taxed, including internationally imported weed.

It's not physically addicting, but it can be psychologically addicting.
It is a carcinogen, and anything burned and inhaled is bad for you, but...
Pot can be used (THC extracted) without burning it to get the desired effect.
As a carcinogen, it's less harmful than smoking cigarettes.
As a recreational drug, it's less harmful than alcohol.
As a medicinal drug there are great benefits we know about, and maybe even more benefits we don't know about.
Hemp from the pot plant is very useful.

It should be legalized.
If they don't legalize pot, at the very least alcohol should also be illegal also.

IMHO though, as has been said earlier here, no government should be able to make my choice of what I put into my body as long as i'm not hurting anyone else.

Anyone that drinks alcohol and thinks weed should remain illegal is a hypocrite and I despise you for that.

I remember the first joint I ever smoked at 13 years old. My friends were already smoking weed, but I held out for a while. I finally, because of a family argument, said intercourse it. I went up to the grocery store, helped some people carry their groceries to their car for tips, and made a couple dollars. I found one of the grocery store shelf stockers that I knew had weed and bought two joints for $1.00 each. I th4en found some friends and we went behind the grocery store a blazed up. We all had fancy motoX bicycles and I could barely ride. I remember going into the icecream shop to get an icecream and thinking everyone knew I was high. Thus began a new life with my new friend, POT!!!

S8N: THC stays in the system and effects it for much longer than alcohol. Much, much longer. I think laws concerning alcohol should be stricter, and any inhaled version of a drug should be outlawed, due to the whole lung cancer thing. Unfortunately, current addictions and lobbyists will prevail.

Um...and? Effects it how? Ok, it stays in the system. Are you saying that because it stays in the system longer than alcohol that it's more dangerous than alcohol? Not true. Alcohol is flat out dangerous. THAT IS FACT. Prove to me the dangers in marijuana?

Quote

That is absurd. First off, what lung cancer I decide to throw into my body by smoking cigarettes is my business.

I may have been wrong in stating that pot was a carcinogen in my previous post.
Have a read here...
http://www.webmd.com/news/20000508/marijuana-unlikely-to-cause-cancer

And if that's not good enough, how about marijuana actually slowing the growth rate of lung cancer?
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070417193338.htm

Cigs and booze are known carcinogens.
So your absurd statement is even doubly absurd.
BAN cigs and booz, and legalize pot.

So we already know there are a number of great medicinal uses for THC (the active ingredient in marijuana). Imagine what possible new value we could find from the drug if it were made legal and open for mass study!

Learn the facts about pot before you make brain washed judgments.
I don't know a whole lot, but I do know enough to know when someone is arguing against marijuana with lies and propaganda as their arsenal. This isn't 3rd grade, Officer Friendly LIED to you about marijuana, and Reefer Madness was bullfeces.

So marijuana impaired your ability to ride a bike?  What if you were driving something bigger?  A car?  Truck?  Bus?  Heavy construction machinery?  Your impairment could lead to fatal injuries.  No, that's not any different from alcohol, but look how many people are killed or injured from DUI accidents.  Do we really need to make that number increase?

Life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness.  When your persuit of happiness threatens my life, we have a problem.

Marijuana decreases productivity.  It also makes you more apathetic, which could lead to job loss, and ceasing to become a functioning, productive, tax paying member of society.

I honestly think this country would be a whole lot better if recreational drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes ceased to exist (or at least the desire for them did).  People would actually go out and do something instead of just "getting wasted".  All the resources that get wasted for damaging various organs and shortening lifespans could be used to produce useful things, like more food, or perhaps organic fuel.

Naturally that can't "just happen", though.  Outlawing alcohol has been tried.  People who are desperate will be forced into a life of crime to support a once-legal habit.  I think the major problem there, though, was the fact that it was once legal.  Why should we take a step backwards and make yet another problem-causing substance legal, just to realise the mistake, make it illegal again, and cause even more problems?

A 13 year old smoking pot for the first time in his life and fumbling around while riding his bike behind a grocery store can not be equated to your what ifs.

NO PERSON should do all those things you so ridiculously try to make your points with while under the influence of many things including some prescription drugs.

What I do responsibly while not harming others is my business.

Err, no.

I consider the psychological (immediate and lasting) effects to be potentially much MUCH more dangerous than the addictiveness of tobacco. Joints have just as many, if not more, carcinogens/poisonous substances in them.

Psst watch that tabbacc you will be so f-ed up you will vomit the first couple of times. Kind of like a narcotic. Hmm. To bad mary has to be on that class one listing. Never seen the cronic cause so one to vomit. Well they did if the took too big a hit.

Lifestyle dictating age. Hmmm what a bummer. Sometime other peoples lifestyle dictate your age. That sucks even worse?

You are, like many others, associating pot use with other issues. I feel the initial smoking of pot, in a lot of cases, comes from children reaching outside their protective circle of family due to some other issues. Bad family, turn to friends, friends smoke weed, you decide to give it a try. Because of this you tend to get a lot of pot smoker that have deeper issues than anything to do with pot. Everything above can be said about alcohol also.

With anything, and I mean absolutely anything, you will have people that abuse it.
For me personally, I can function just fine after smoking pot. In fact none of you would ever know the difference. Of course I don't smoke 10 joints and get blasted either.

If you are going to talk about weed, talk about weed. Don't use your library of disinformation to include weed in excess, or deeper lying issues in a person's life.

Can't remember the last ranging potoholic that came home wasted from a bar, beat his wife and kids, and then passed out on the floor.

S8NSSON im know what i am talking about. you feel strongly about this issue and thats good. im not for or against weed being legalised. I don't give an argument, just a view.

You have to look at the other side of your argument to be taken seriously by me. All im seeing from you is "benefits", sure weed isn't all bad, but either directly or indirectly it has alot of negative impacts.

My friend changed one thing in his life, he stopped smoking weed and his life became better. Upon that basis i am associating weed with a lower standard of living for him.

I understand lekky, but I also understand that his change may not be based on just one factor. There may be more psychological factors involved in his cause and effect decision to quit pot and better his life. The "pot" may have been his crutch, but not necessarily the problem.

Like I said, as with anything, even a hobby as seemingly harmless as butterfly collecting, if not done in moderation it can be harmful to you in many ways.

It's not the weed that is harming (short of medical proof of such), it is the person that abuses the weed. Same goes with alcohol. Same goes with GREEN TEA (just read this today WOW) http://www.pheedo.com/click.phdo?i=10a34b2aaea416653a885c4a4fc45712.

It's really just a question of choice. I should be able to choose to smoke or not smoke weed as long as I am responsible and not endangering others. No government should make my choice on how I abuse my body.

EDIT:
This game, and most FPS games, are based on reaction. Twitch games, if you will. I may not be the best at this game, but I am at least average. This is a 43 year old person that has smoked pot since the age of 13. That's 30 years of pot smoking. So I'm past my prime "reactionary" years and yet I am still at least as good as half the players in the game, most of which probably never smoked a joint in their lives. It's not the weed, it's the person. Some people just shouldn't smoke weed genetically. Same with lots of other things.

See this is why its such a hard one to come to a good conclusion. I understand that you and alot of people have no problem with weed, it has no negative effect on you or your lifestyle, even the opposite!

But neither you nor me are certain that everyone can be the same as you. And yeah alcohol is the cause of alot more problems that people realise, but this is a weed thread.

The problem will any drug questions is that the default argument is "Yeah it's bad, but not as bad as..."

For example: "Sure, LSD is bad, but it hasn't killed as many people as the Holocaust; and we didn't outlaw Germans!"

Heh, I was thinking the same thing.  The argument so frequently goes along the lines of, "X may be harmful, but it's not as harmful as Y.  Y is legal, therefore X should be, too."

So it may not be as harmful as tobacco.  So what?  Quite frankly, tobacco should be illegal, too.  It really doesn't have any redeeming qualities.  Fortunately people are becoming smarter and moving away from that habit.  Disney, for example, is removing all of its smoking rooms in the resort hotels.

LSD has never killed anyone. And for pot to kill you (from OD), you need to smoke about your body weight in marijuana.

It's pretty easy to go out and do something stupid from the effects of pot/LSD/whatever, though.

Weed, if smoked in leaf form, contains 3x more tar than tobacco, and it settles in the lower throat where it cools, as opposed to the lungs.

you know this is a subject that cant ever be won. because of opposing thoughts..

obviously theres problems with drugs\alcahol\tabacoo

and i have to agree with jitspoe on how drugs make most people unproductive and unmotivated to do stuff. but theres also a group of people out there that can do it without any problems. no mater what race\religion\belifs you have.. theres some idiot out there that has the same race\religion\belifs that gives someone an advantage to attack the type of group your apart of ;)

i dont know too many stoners who would "CAUSE" a car crashes.. and if so.. i bet theres way more sober people crashing then stoners.. and more drunks crashing then stoners as well, this could also be because most stoners are sitting on there couch watching tv. and have allready bought snacks on the way home from work :).

a war on drugs = stupid
a war on poverty = smart

if you want to end poverty in 3rd world countrys... dont send money send them condoms.. soo they dont have any kidds that they cant afford to feed! (harsh reality)
