ok the downloads take way to long on game so my idea is to have either
1. a download manager incorporated in the game like for instance you have it download textures separetly from brushes, separetly from weapons, etc.......
2. have all, i mean all, of the maps posted on this website to be downloaded [ i have a free download manager callled free download manager :o off of download.com that speeds up downloads by 300% and it extracts download too ;D] but if there is a 2. already then tell me. 8)

You're proposal probably wouldn't work. First, the 'brushes' and stuff are in maps, and map files only. Map files take a long time, but there is an effort to fix this (See "HTTP downloading for maps" in the Feature Request '07 thread). The best place to download maps are from this site, a map pack, or through DPGet (See 'DPGet' by ViciouZ).
Between 'http downloads' in-game, this sites files library, and all the mirrors (like ch1ll is known for hosting map packs), and DPGet - you should be able to get maps fast.
I'd recommend taking this time to vote for 'http downloads' in the Feature Request thread. Also note that your game shouldn't be downloading weapons... if so then something is really odd.

yea weapons no downloading i forgot you install it with the game. lol ill check it later thanks

1. a download manager incorporated in the game like for instance you have it download textures separately from brushes, separately from weapons, etc.......
That would kind of be weird. I agree with y00tz.
-
yea i guess but what im try to say it spreads the data from the maps into sections and downloads them all at once. it would increase download time but you would need multiple downloader thingys for it to work lol

Oh very scientific of you thingys lol :P just kidding I see what you mean though.

Since we are talking about map packs I believe that Bring Your Own Paint has one of the best map packs right now.
I also believe there is a link to it on the files page.
-
yea but im saying faster downloads not ssssssssslllllloooowwwwwwwwww downloads like we have now. not map packs
-
Use DPGet by me. I felt I needed to be an egotist.
DPGet (http://www.viciouz.co.uk/dpget/dpget.zip)
This will get you maps faster than in game.
-
ill try it but if it doesn't do good you will be...... *squish noise*
-
ok it worked i downloaded anubis now does anyone know the cosmic3 file name? no *squish noise*
-
It's cosmic3.bsp
-
...but the limitation of DPGet is that it doesn't download textures or sounds, so you'll still have to get them from the server.
-
i was going to say that lol but i want to play cosmic3 and i can't find it in my map lisst is that normal? or anubis
-
Where did you install paintball2? Did you enter the right directory into DPGet?
Check that dppath.txt matches your DP location.
-
DPGet rules I use it all the time.
-
i like dpget but i have it in external hard drive just read my post and youll see what i mean its in the same directory as pball but read the bsp/22 error in help and support
-
Ok, If DPGet.bat is in the very same directory as paintball2.exe:
1. Delete dppath.txt is there is one
2. Set DPGet up again, but when it asks you for the directory put a .
3. Try downloading the maps again.
-
no not like that here is a screenie sorry for the messy ness ies type stuff ... nvm oh no xfire shows :o
-
Yeah. Go into the dpget folder in that picture. Copy all the files EXCEPT dppath.txr. Go back to F:\(Jakes) and go into the folder paintball2. Paste all the files into that folder. Then run DPGet and when it prompts you for a directory type .
-
i gtg so ill try the rest later but do i delet the dpget folder?
-
I think so but I wouldn't yet Viciouz did make it so he knows better.
-
It doesn't matter whether you delete it or not as long as you run DPGet.bat from the directory paintball2.
-
cosmic3 downloaded ;D but it still doesn't show in the list >:( and now cosmic3 disappeared :o and this is getting annoying
-
What are you entering where it asks for a game directory?
-
a like you said.................thats what you said right!!?
-
A period/full stop? That's what you need to put in. If you want I'll make a special version just for you.
-
no thank you but ill try it again maybe later my cousin across the world is chatting to me lol
