Title: People can't connect!
Post by: akim on June 20, 2007, 10:30:42 AM
Hello, I'm trying to make a private server (for matches and stuff) but I need some help.  I can connect to the game using my Static IP address, followed by the port (192.168.2.136:27910), but others cannot join. I was wondering if I'm using the correct IP. I know not to use my LAN IP (192.168.2.2:27910).

So, do you use your Static IP to connect to a server? "connect 192.168.2.136:27910"

I forgot to mention that I'm on a router.

192.168.*.* is reserved for LAN. You have to use your external IP. Go to ipchicken.com (http://ipchicken.com/) to find out what that is. Once you do, you need to do some port forwarding (http://portforward.com)

When I use my External IP, it won't let me go into the server.
It repeats "Connecting to 24.229.167.139:27910 | NET_GetPacket: WSAECONNRESET FROM (IP)"
When you Port Forward, you use your LAN IP, correct? I do not see where to Port Forward with my External IP.

I used the "DMZ" feature, if that helps.

You may not be able to connect to your own external IP.  Supposedly DMZ opens your computer up directly to the Internet, but I haven't really messed with it.  In theory that should work.

Yeah I got it, thanks. I use my LAN IP to connect and others use my External IP to connect.  I've made a new topic on my next problem at http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=7120.0
