Title: Digital Paint Cup - hosted by Global Gamers Center
Post by: bitmate on July 04, 2007, 10:24:23 AM
Win a new G15 keyboard for playing paintball!

The Global Gamers Center IRC network is happy to announce that we will be hosting a 4v4 Digital Paint Paintball 2 tournament on Saturday, July 14.  The tournament is sponsored by nVidia and features a first prize of four G15 keyboards to the winning team!

All you have to do is download the game in the Files section of http://www.digitalpaint.org/ and get started!  Then grab three of your friends and sign up for the tournament.  There's no excuse not to play.

For more information about the tournament, please see the website at http://dpcup.globalgamerscenter.net/ or join us in #paintball on irc.globalgamerscenter.net.

More details will follow during the next couple of days, so be prepared.

Nice, we play on european or american servers? or both?

It will be EU and US servers, so there won't be a ping disadvantage for any of the players.  We plan on playing one map on US and one map on EU server if it's needed.

So it's a double elimination tournament; but the rules show that matches will consist of two 10 minute maps.  Then it says that in the event of a tie, a 2 minute overtime round will be played.

I'm a little confused here.  A two minute overtime if the map results in a tie, just like the "standard rules" are now?  Or if the map score is 1-1 after the two maps a two minute round will be played to determine who advances in the tournament?  Why aren't these matches played in a best of three fashion?  How about pick a map pool of 5, 7 or 9 maps and allow the tie breaker map to be decided by an elimination process where each team takes turns eliminating remaining unplayed maps until a tie map is decided.

Otherwise, look forward to playing in this.

Actually, we haven't spoken about that part that much.  Now as you bring it up, I think your #2 suggestion is the best.
If the final result is 1-1, a 2-minute overtime will be added on the map that is currently played. [In the event of a tie on a regular map, there will also be an overtime, of course.]
Thanks for you input!!! <3

That's like EuroPaint and PBCup were/are.  I/We wanted to bring up a new mode.  Maybe it will work, maybe not.  We will see...
Maps will be announced by the Cup Administration, so everyone has to play the same maps in the round given.

Looking forward to this too, just a couple of questions. If they have been answered before I apologise.

- What time will the tournament start?
- Have you considered the length of time it would take to complete?
- When scheduling matches for us, do you take into account the potential 10 hours time difference between some teams?
- If its not a 1-day tournament, rule 4.3 is misleading.
- When will the map list be known, and the map assigned to each round be known?
- How will the first round matches be decided?

- What time will the tournament start?
It's not announced yet.  We are still working on it, but I think the times / schedule will be online on the weekend.

- Have you considered the length of time it would take to complete?
1 day. LOL

- When scheduling matches for us, do you take into account the potential 10 hours time difference between some teams?
Yeah, we take that into account, though we haven't set up any times yet.  I think it will be something accross the lines of morning - afternoon (US) and afternoon - evening (EU).

- If its not a 1-day tournament, rule 4.3 is misleading.
See above.

- When will the map list be known, and the map assigned to each round be known?
You still can vote for your map on IRC (!dpvote).  As long as we don't have any clue how many teams are registering, we can't schedule matches and can't select maps for each round.
Registration will most likely be open until 3-5 days before the tournaments starts.  GGC admins (bctrainers :P) are busy with other things, so we didn't have much time to advertize this tounrament like it would benecessary.

- How will the first round matches be decided?
Teams will be selected randomly.

I hope that covers most of the things you wanted to know :P

No.
It will be the same server, map #2 has been played on.  It's a small disadvantage for one team, though.

***edit:
After all the confusion the 1-1 tie has made: We will update the rules about that in the next days.  Please check the page for the lastest news.
Sorry about the worries I've caused.

Cheers.

And please Vote For maps -> mIRC (every clanchannel) !dpvote ...

Vote for maps which have 0-3 Votes. Not for maps which have more than 10.

Thanks

Indeed, if we dont see the fixtures within the next couple of hours then TEZC probably wont be taking part as the chances of getting players on for 5pm GMT with no notice are zero.

To get things straight: Unfortunately, I can't show up tonight, so I won't be in charge of the cup...
I already talked with some of the GGC Staff in order to get this tounry started.
Best of luck to all participants!!

Pretty fun tournament all-in-all.  It was great seeing teams like -}5p{-, TEZC and abcdpc show up to play.  If you missed the action, all of my demos are available here (http://zilla-clan.net/upload/659707) for your viewing pleasure.  20ID didn't use any voice communication at all this tournament so you get to see some good recon and mm2 :)

Good games!

The first GGC DP Cup aftermath! - Posted by ButtaKnife on July 14, 2007

The first GGC DP Cup is over! At last! Congratulations to [20ID] for taking first place, DaRkNeSs for winning second place, and College Court for getting third place!

The tournament was a lot of fun (even though we started late), and we can't wait for the next one. Almost all of us on the GGC staff are very new to DP, and things didn't quite go as smoothly as we had hoped, but everyone in the DP community showed us a lot today. You are a fantastic community, and we will definitely use what we've learned to make the next tournament even better.

Of course, we want to thank NVIDIA for sponsoring the tournament, and for an event like this, we owe a huge thank you to a lot of people.

First and foremost, without XtremeBain, the tournament could not have happened today. Thank you for stepping up at the last minute when we needed the help the most.

We also want to thank ViciouZ, who helped get the tournament started and fielded some pretty crazy questions, in addition to filling in for basically anything else that was needed during the tournament.

Thank you to MeMi|PURE and Blitz for setting up the crucial score bot in #europaint.scores, and to MeMi|PURE in particular for being helpful in providing suggestions for our next tournament.

matze kindly provided us with the European ch1ll servers, and T4K allowed us to use his FREE US game servers. daemonic contributed his Atlantis server. Thanks, guys!

We would like to thank two people who unfortunately couldn't make it to the tournament: bitmate for helping get a lot of the groundwork laid during the early planning stages, and jitspoe for making such a great game freely available and giving us permission to take over #paintball for the day.

Last but certainly not least, thank you to [20ID], College Court, DaRkNeSs, Metal Militia, Insane Junction, AllStarz, -}5p{-, [QeHs], Only The Best, The Enigma Zone Crew, ApoBoc, and abcdpc. Thank you all for participating and for being patient with us. Thank you for your guidance and your feedback.

All prizes will be shipped by the end of this upcoming week, and if any of the players would like to share screenshots or demos from your matches, please contact ButtaKnife on IRC.

We hope you all had a good time!

How can you blame bain for anything? He wasnt even a part of the group organizing. He took it upon himself to help these guys and make sure it actually happened today. Considering every other team that was there maanged to message him, amazing you guys didn't?

Well, while you were trying your hardest to get a tryout from a non-existant bot in #ch1ll despite CoLA's advice, all the action was going on in #paintball.

Yourself for not being there at time.
Seems like this community always need bain to organize something a bit bigger.gj
Boon if you could please post your demos cause from bains i see MeMi played very good and i want to watch your other matches.
Also if someone from QeHs could post theirs would be also awesome cause they did very good too (almost had you guys, actually i'm pretty sure they would if that guy didnt kept on lagging out :P )
Anyway good game all and i'm glad this cup went fine.

The rules on the main tournament page clearly specify that #paintball was the tournament channel, and that "..one representative from each team must idle IRC for the duration of the tournament."

Maybe next time we just need to be clearer.
@Apocalypse, what were you planning on doing at 1pm to join up with the tourney?  I would have assumed since an IRC network was hosting, that you should be in IRC, but that' ok,  DPCup guys, great job, sounds like everything went relatively smooth, congrats on that.

That is true, but I delete my demo folder, for several reasons - The demo starts automatically if i join some server. Basically I get 6 demos from 1 match. 1 when I join first server, 2nd when I change the map. 3rd when i join to 2nd server, 4th when the map is changed. 5th when map changes. 6th when we change to tie map. Sometimes more when tie map is played on other server than 2nd server. Sometimes maps are being restarted. And when I want to take a demo i dont forget to do it, the fact that i had so many demos shows it(read further why i HAD so many demos not i HAVE so many)

PS is there a way to restore files/folders what have been sent to recycle bin and what have been deleted from there (My paintball folder with 1gb of maps, few hundred of demos, screenshots from year 2005 [almost from every match ive payed]), got deleted, because some program I unzipped to /My documents decided to clear the whole My documents after the uninstall [some folders stayed though :/]. And I didnt see that after I had emptied the recycle bin.

blaa: I use a program called Restorer 2000 pro.  It's like $50, but worthwhile.  Keep in mind that every time you write data to your hard drive, you're decreasing the chance of being able to restore what's been deleted.

Thanks for stepping up to the plate and performing your usual tournament organizing magic, Bain.  I hope everybody had fun.  Sorry I couldn't be there.
