After alot of tweaks and annoyances, I finally got Keygrip2 (http://keygrip.planetquake.gamespy.com/ (http://keygrip.planetquake.gamespy.com/)) working with the Paintball 2 client :) Well sort of.... You have to use some older tools and such and it's kind of a pain in the butt... but it can be done!
Currently, im working on a how to video for people new to paintball and it should be out sometime in the next few weeks or so :)
Attached file is a quick recam demo i did in 5 mintues to show that it can be done :)
-
Wow, this is going to be awesome
-
Very nice work, thats pretty tight. Although I noticed you can still see the paintball count and CO2 measure and what not on the 3rd person view.
-
Yeah, they can be removed though.. I just didn't do a full polish up job. Or you can just send the cl_drawhud 0 command to dp at the start and have it reset it back at the end of the demo.
You can also add music and whatever to it.

hey Xile,
would you mind explaining the steps and tools required to make keygrip work? :)
-
I'm a bit busy with some other things atm, lol if you havent noticed. But i will write up a tutorial after the weekend for this :)
-
Maybe list the tools so some of us can tinker while we wait?
-
How do you record a game with the demo feature?
-
Go into the console and type record <demoname>.
-
Ok thanks
-
Keygrip looks for "Quake II" in the window name, doesn't it? I remember getting it working after messing with the build16 source code after xbain mentioned something like that.
-
Well jitspoe incorporated the Q2 windowname as a variable in build 18 upwards.
vid_windowclassname
-
Well what I did was I downloaded Keygrip 2 from the site posted above.
Downloaded The Quake2 Demo...
Downloaded The Quake2 3.20 update..
Downloaded DP 1.51 for Quake2 http://www.fileplanet.com/13521/download/Paintball-II-v1.51 (http://www.fileplanet.com/13521/download/Paintball-II-v1.51)
Installed all of these to a specific location.
Recorded a demo in build 19.
Pointed Keygrip2 configurtions to the Quake2 version of DP.
Copied my demo from build 19 to the Quake 2 pball.
Loaded it up in keygrip. Deleted the first "print" in the blocklist, and it worked.
Theres probably an easier way, but I could not get it to function properly with the build 19 client.
-
I will have to try to play with some settings to get build 19 to work, but I havent really had much time to play with it.
-
That link above for Keygrip has been 'under maintenance' every time I've checked it for 2-3 days now.
-
I just tried it..it's working.
-
Ermm, you mind posting the file then?
When I hit download, then 'mirrors' for KeyGrip2, I get the system maintenance error.
-
Ok I got it to work with build 19.
What I had to do was make a copy of paintball2.exe, rename in to Quake2.exe...
And in my config file i had to add
set vid_windowclassname "Quake 2"
You should add it after these lines:
set vid_ref "gl"
set vid_fullscreen "0"
set vid_windowclassname "Quake 2"
I'm probably going to make some kind of prepackaged version of DP so that it won't interfere with peoples original clients. Also, adding binds that work in conjunction with keygrip 2.
-y00tz, attached the install file.
kg2054.zip -- keygrip program
pakexplr.zip -- .pak file editor

This + DP2Demo2AVI = <3 <3 <3 Xile

I was just posting at...

Trying to get rid of the status bar manually...
Not working out very well.. lol

cl_hudstyle 0 turns off the client-side hud and instead uses the commands that the server sends instead (drawpic kinda things). Now you can go through all the frames in keygrip and erase all the hud-related commands in the demo.
-
Yeah i figured that out after the post :)
Thanks though
-
Here we go, another demo.. took a few hours but it shows a bit more...
Extract the pak file to your paintball2/pball directory.
Load up dp, and type in map xdemov2.dm2
Should load up and play :D
-
Looks good, kinda odd though and slow camera change response.
-
Look good. I'm wondering if you could somehow get rid of the HoM's. Specifically, the last scene.
-
What is this?
-
Nice, brings back memories of the oldschool machinema (sp?) videos.
-
*Machinima
Close though Jits.

Strange. I always thought machinima was a combination of "machine" and "cinema", both of which have "ine". Where does the "ini" come from?
-
It's more like "machine", "animation", and "cinema".

Huh, where does the cinema come from? Years ago it was coined from Machine + Animation
MACHine + ANIMAtion
