Wow. I wonder how much all that cost?
-
does the camera mounted on the plane move with the guys head or is in remote control?
-
Saw this a while ago, it's awesome.
Almost as cool as XKCD's kites: http://xkcd.com/kite/

With his head. That's what the gyroscope on the helmet is for.
-
That is flippin awesome! I want one!

Almost as cool? Come on now, this guy is taking full motion video from an RC plane controlled by a VR helmet. That's like several levels of magnitude more awesome than taking still photos from a kite.

For some reason I thought Zorch started this thread, weird.
VR + RC>((kite + camera)*50).
I wonder how many times he nearly crashed the plane and wet himself?

(Doubled for bump)
I'm saving up to build one of these suckers: http://www.pabr.org/chromicro/doc/chromicro.en.html [Work-safe]
I've priced it at about $1100, so now it's just a matter of saving. That is of course, unless you guys know of a cheaper way to do it.
-
Does that $1100 include the laptop? Seems kind of pricey. I've been having a lot of fun with the little $30 choppers you can get at Wal-Mart.

The $1100 includes
~$200 for the plane
~$400 for the mini PC
~$100 misc. parts / cmos sensor
and
~$400 for a cheaper laptop to install linux on so I can fly it.
y00tz is a newb. Edited for y00tzisms.

You could just get a regular RC helicopter. I imagine it would probably be cheaper and take a lot less work.
