This is in response to discussion about the feature vote page. You decide.
-
Hm... Cant decide, what would be the pro's and con's of each one?
-
Seems look it would be harder to tally the votes without knowing the names.
-
This isn't an election I think we should be able to see the names.

No, i like to see what people vote for, and i agree with kilo with it being harder to tally without names

This is for an automated system. They'd be handled internally but not visible to other users.
As for pros and cons, I guess they'd be something like this:
Anonymous:
Pros:
You could vote freely without having to be concerned about what other people think of what you're voting for.
Cons:
Might be harder to identify potential "voter fraud" if the whole community can't see who is actually voting.
Not anonymous (onymous?):
Pros:
Curious users can see who all is for or against different features.
If something sketchy happens, it will be more apparent who caused it.
Cons:
Some people might feel pressured into voting for or against a feature when it's not really what they want.
-
I feel that if a member voted on a particular that I personally question, I would like to have the opportunity to engage s/h/it in why they chose that feature and maybe even sway my opinion.
-
Meh, I went with onymous :P
onymous:
bearing a name (not anonymous)
-
I vote for onymous. :D
-
I vote for anonymous.
So the new players dont be afraid to vote on what they really want just because some old-schoolers don't like it.
-
But stuff that new players vote for sucks, and is usually useless.
/me can imagine "dual weapons" spreading like wild fire.
-
???
that doesnt make sense.
If we want a voting let all people vote.
If not dont let people vote.
-
anonymous voting would only work if it's one vote per player (no cancelling votes to re-vote)... kinda hard to decide though. But it would encourage people who wants to be anonymous to vote.
-
I trump your jump feature vote with my grapple feature vote FTW!!!
-
Hard one. I think there is little to choose between either option. I'm inclined to say show the names simply because it may lead to discussion about features, rather than just idle votes. I can't see their being much pressure on people as its not really that type of voting. As it is now names are shown openly and this seems to work fine, so I think it should be carried on to the automated system.
-
I'm not voting for anonymous votes but if you wanted anonymous and changeable you could simply use a poll......
-
Why not just ask for your name to be left off the list when you vote. Then just modify your post after you see your vote has been counted?
-
That would be completely pointless because then it wouldn't be anonymous because people would see your post :P

"Then just modify your post after you see your vote has been counted?"
Hence this part of my post.

That's not anonymous, and I'm sure in this community at least, a watch-dog group would form to relay voting records.
-
a watch-dog group would form to relay voting records.
Do you mean something like a committee?! ;D

Heh, I just pictured a few of the forum vets watching that thread religiously, and posting who votes what as public record on IRC... :P
-
You mean remove it alot of people would be on before Jits :\
-
I do know that on some forums, they allow for members to post, and as soon as their post is active, it becomes hidden to the rest of the community, besides the admins, mods, etc. Maybe we could implement this into our forums?

Because then you'd have burnt out moderators constantly sifting through votes. I'd rather see a poll than someone being able to type in whatever answer they want anyway.
-
This poll is about a new feature voting system. I'm not going to hide votes on the forum. That's too much work.
