Title: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on April 11, 2005, 04:09:23 AM
A new build, a new thread.  Build 14 comes with an installer.  Try it out here: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build14_full_pretest1.exe

If all goes well, this will just be the build 14 full release, but it may be subject to change.  I haven't gotten an update install done yet.

To test the paintball2 url functionality, click here: paintball2://209.123.8.57:27980

Edit: Final links:

Full install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build014_full.exe (16M)
Patch install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build014_update.exe (1.1M)
Linux full install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build014_linux_full.tar.gz (20M)

^_^

You'd better show me where that sound place on Siegecastle is, jits, or I'll release that VID THAT SHOWS WHAT YOU DO ON PAINTBALL LATE AT NIGHT!
Ooh.

BTW: Add "jits" and "vid" to the spell check.

I made a little goof up.  The fullscreen mode does not work properly in the pretest1 release.  You can fix that by extracting the executables from this zip over your build 14 install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build14_pretest1_fullscreenfix.zip

eiii: "jits" and "vid" aren't words, though... and you were doing it, too!

Another fix for the full install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build14_full_pretest3.exe (16M)

Patch install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build14_update_pretest1.exe (1.1M)

There was a problem with the refresh rate selection widget that made it crash.  Just a minor thing.

some quick feedback for the Linux build:

-Fullscreen doesn't seem to work when resolution is set to the desktop resolution. Using resolutions below works fine.
-Trying to type a name in player setup crashes the client (signal 11)
-setting sound to 3d sound displays 'dlopen("q2a3d.so") failed - file not found' (or something similar), but since this is experimental it's probably just not done yet
-i can't bind all of my mouse buttons - buttons 1,2, 3 and wheelup/wheeldown work, but buttons 5 and 6 are not recognized

That's all for now.
If you need further information I'll provide it for you.
Thanks for the Linux build!

Post by: jitspoe on April 16, 2005, 09:50:11 PM
Thanks for the feedback.  I'll see what I can do.  The 3D sound hasn't been ported to Linux yet.  I didn't think to remove it from the menu.  When that gets done, I'm hoping it'll work better than the regular sound (which cuts out a lot for me, for some reason, but that seems to be for all games).  I'm not really sure how to get more than 3 mouse buttons to work in xwindows -- haven't done much coding in that environment -- but there's probably a way.  I should be able to fix the player name crashing in the menu, but in the meantime, just type "name <yourname>" at the console.  Does this happen with any edit box?
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: Mighty on April 17, 2005, 04:01:04 AM
Strangely the edit box crash didn't happen today.
Maybe it was a problem on my side...
I'll investigate this further and let you know if I find something out.

Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: LAN@wasted on April 21, 2005, 07:47:55 AM
he might want to say that some settings cant be changed while ingame (are these the settings that are inscribed in the server.cfg or are they protected someway else?)
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: ShotMyself on April 22, 2005, 09:08:49 AM
I made the changes to the setting:  resolution, controls, etc.  I tried to save it as ShotMyself.cfg ingame,  it seemed like it saved, but when i got to load it, it doesnt appear.

Ok i see what happens now after little testing, the configs start appearing after you restart the game.  If you dont include the .cfg while saving it saves it to "yourfilename" no extension.
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on April 22, 2005, 04:14:16 PM
So it works as long as you have the .cfg put on your config filename?

Dear all,

I tried to join game in build 14, but everytime I use update pball quits. Can someone help me to solve this prob?

A friend of mine play build 8 and finds servers in his list, I trired the same with build 8 and the list is blank everytime.

No idea if this problems have the same reason ?? ???

PS: Sorry for my english I'm from germany. ;D
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on April 25, 2005, 05:34:50 PM
ShotMyself: sure.

Semtex: Sounds like there's still something causing it to crash.  I thought I had fixed all of those problems.  Could you do me a favor and email your serverlist.dat (should be in paintball2\pball).  Email it to jitspoe@yahoo.com.  After that, delete it and try using "update" again.

Build 8 will not work with the serverlist anymore.  The reason it shows up for your friend is because it's cached locally.  The update function no longer functions because of some webserver changes beyond my control.

Post by: TuxAttack on April 28, 2005, 09:48:40 PM
The linux source code worked for me, mostly.  In order to get it to work on my Mandrake 10.1 box I had to:

1) install libMesaGLU1-devel-5.0.2-8mdk.rpm (using rpmdrake) to get /usr/X11R6/include/GL/glu.h
2) mkdir debugi386/a3d
3) mkdir releasei386/a3d

and... well... the... sound... is... choppy... to... say... the... least...  And the terminal gets kinda funky.  I'm so close to kicking my wine habit.
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on April 28, 2005, 11:36:06 PM
Sound in Linux is rather problematic (not that it's unique to sound, lol).  My sound isn't choppy, but it will sometimes cut out and never come back.  This happens in other games, not just paintball.  I'm hoping the OpenAL support will be better once we get that done.  You might try adjusting s_mixahead and see if that helps your sound any.

Wee its not just me.

Before i updated to 14, my serer list went blank the same night of the last pick up. I used the 14 upgrade patch from 13 to fix. Thus the complaints above.

The machine hosting apex went down and took down half the serverlist with it.  I'm not sure what the status of that is as I haven't seen FourthX around for a while.

they're not updated. they dont' deserve to be PLAYED!
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: loial21 on May 11, 2005, 07:34:50 PM
I was not talking to you snob (*edit i ment newb). Get a life :)

they're not updated. they dont' deserve to be PLAYED!
So why do / did you play them?

Speaking of playing or lack of, during one pickup you just gave up because you did not like taco's map. Be a trooper not a pooper and leave the server so someone else can play or face your arse whoopin like a man :)

Btw thanks for using colored fonts and taunting me about using them and how you did not care if I got kicked playing or if you got kicked by the admin for using them, real mature thanks for showing your true colors God your no better than a cheater or a server admin that does not want to upgrade. I mean this I dont cheat and I dont mind upgrading but i perfer to use q2 and play on graf why should I be punished ?

Jitspoe,
You could have mentioned this earlier when I was asking where all the servers were, yes I might booger about it but I can get over it, however...

I really did appreciate you putting old builds back on the server list on alpha 13. It was the right thing to do . Please dont punish others like myself (non cheating and willing to use alpha) like that.  Untill you can get rid of q2 it still is the right thing to do.

So, let me get this strait to play on graf servers (which is where I like to play, no lag low ping etc..) with alpha (which is what you wanted me to do right? I AM TRYING TO ADJUST TO ALPHA) I have to un-install 14 and re-install 13?  My queations is if I want to use alpha how can I play on graf servers w/o having to input server information my self? Talk about not user friendly.

Btw if your going to make changes to the game would you mind posting your changes in lamiens terms, not every one here is a hack. and understands jitspoeneese ;)

Thanks for your time friend and your time ei ei o (you nerd)

Craig

**edit
Jitspoe when you said "updated" I assumed you were reffering to the update button in alpha :)
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on May 11, 2005, 09:04:15 PM
To play on graffiti just use gamespy, ase, hlsw, or some other server that supports Quake2 and point it to paintball2.exe instead of quake2.exe.  Using alpha 13 will not make the graffiti servers show up on the list.  As I said, the serverlist is automated now, as in, I don't control it.  When a server runs, it adds itself to the list, and gets removed when it shuts down.  Graffiti will have to update their servers for this feature.  Simple as that.
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: loial21 on May 11, 2005, 09:31:26 PM
Will this effect my other q2 mods that I play, that is if I want to play q2 WOD, DDAY, GLOOM etc wont the paintball2.exe not play the or bring up other mod's servers?

Will I have to toggle the .exe back and forth to play more than one mod?

Do you see the overcomplexity of what your asking from a idiots point of view?

At some point during 13 graf severs were added back on. What changed err re-changed your mind?

ei ei o :) ,

Uhhhh ....read "I wish" thread.

Jitspoe,

I have phrased this question as best I can twice on two threads. I have yet got a logical explanation as to what happened as a matter of fact now it was completely ignored.

"Graf servers was added (after much debate) on 13 why not 14"?

Thanks for your time bud ;)
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on May 12, 2005, 01:26:22 AM
And I explained before.  The serverlist is automated now.  If graffiti would simply update, their servers would send heartbeats to the serverlist and appear on the in-game server browser.
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: S8NSSON on May 12, 2005, 08:49:00 AM
Here let me try...

THE SERVER LIST IS AUTOMATED NOW.
SERVERS MUST UPDATE TO BUILD14 TO SEND THE HEARTBEAT THAT PUTS THEM ON THE LIST.

I imagine this feature is in response to YOU GUYS complaining about having always update your server list manually. So NOW YOU DON'T. The problem is the server has to UPDATE.

SO UPDATE AND be quiet
whiny dang freaks...STOPPIT

        14 is

Why did you make this change.

s8n fyi i never whined about updating manually , as a matter of fact i dont know how....   :-[
Title: Re: Build 014 Feedback
Post by: jitspoe on May 13, 2005, 12:25:27 AM
This has nothing to do with the clients.  It's the servers.  You never ran a server so you would not have had to have the ip manually added to the list.  I got sick of manually updating the server list every time somebody created a new server or an old server disappeared, or an ip changed, etc., so I coded a new feature that allows servers to automatically add themselves to the server list.  If the server list script doesn't get a heartbeat from the server after 2 hours, it deletes it from the list.

If you ask me, and I know you didn't but I will speak anyways, backwards compatability should be SHOT.
It's down right HARD to maintain backwards compatability most of time. HARD...anyone hear that? HARD.
So Jitspoe has gone out of his way and made life much harder on himself to maintain backwards compatability as long as he could. Well I guess it's come to the point where he just couldn't in this case.

My god...I am sick and tired (mostly sick, but a little tired) of you people whinin about updating.
UPDATE AND be quiet (/me throws things around his office in agravation).

You "may" argue that you like the feel of the old versions better, whatever.
The ONLY reason I can see that ANYONE would stay with the only version is so thier hax will work.
We ain't stupid you old version lovers...
The newer versions don't LAG more than the old.
The newer versions aren't harder to navigate than the old.
The feel "may" be a little different. And if it is a little different, it's only a little different. Any good or dedicated player could easily get used to it. UNLESS they are trying to keep thier HAX running. HAX0RZ...argh...bah (/me throws more stuff around his office) People are starting to stare into my office now. SEE WHAT YOU HAX0RZ HAVE DONE?

UPDATE YOUR VERSIONS
DELETE YOU OLD VERSIONS

OH WAIT...maybe there was this new feature in the game that was set ON by default that you don't like. I think Jitspoe is a very busy person. Maybe he doesn't have time to write all this documentation you might find in shelf games. But I don't see that any feature would be placed in the game without it being in the README file. Now if he overlooked making the command to turn the feature on/off public...then that's his bad. Just ask him and he'll tall you what it is. Jitspoe, when someone asks you how to do something in the game please PLEASE don't answer with, "Why would you wanna do that...spraying sucks." (that was a representation of a Jitspoe response to turning off freezing that really happened).

DONT BE LAME
UPDATE YOUR GAME
DELETE YOUR CHEAT
AND YOU CAN BE 1337
(/me beat boxes and dance in his office....ooops security is coming...gotta go)

I dont like Snipen the way i like you :)

Untill he starting hosting servers he and I were at each others throats about who pwned who. He is not a good loser lets say and I am not a gracious winner, mostly. Dont let me fool you though he got the best of me when we played.

Really all of GT I find my self compelled to associate with rather than some LEET clan that looks down on everything and everyone (cough BOB, Taco (eastwoods lol), fryth your kewl), snipen how ever has always had a cold spot in my heart, he does what he does and I dont talk to him unless he is on server and I caught someone flooding the server or I detect a Client SIde proxy cheat. (dont ask clan secret)

S8n :)
Do people who is q2 cheat? Yes

Are most q2 users cheats?  No not the ones in Gamespy that want to be taken seriously if there are caught they can no longer play in popular servers for very long (Perm bans Lists in forum). Changing names and Ip(s) is the largest drawback to any playing q2 public non-locked rooms, thus these are the most attacked servers.

A secure code for Global Account is ideal.

Quote
Are most q2 users cheats?

This one does not, so in accusing all q2 users of cheating you do a great injustice to those who don't and to this game.

Now being a huge fan of your maps and humor, I will differ to you about snipen ur in GT not me.

Loial reflects Jitspoe questions about snipen towards S8n, he is in GT not me.   >>>I can rap 2

The entire time i've been in GT i've seen Snipen three times, and have spoken, in length, with him none of those times.
So I can't answer any questions about Snipen.

I feel it's my duty to translate IronFists post for those that can't, or can't bear, to read it.

Translation:
Quote
It appears we are all in a state of mind similar to the state of mind caused by doing illegal drugs. I feel the need to get some things straight.

First of all, we have Loial21 being offensive to DirtyTaco. Being that I am notorious, I feel I must respond, understand? Secondly, you have voiced concern that people could circumvent theorized securities by changing thier IP addresses. You silly goose, sure you can ban that way, but what happens when I get the socks proxy list, understand? There are many socks proxies out there that are not secure, so I can take advantage of the UDP protocol specifications. Golly, there would be one million simultaneous versions of me connected to your server, you must believe me.

So next time you want to compose a message to me, you should think about what you are saying very carefully because I have come forward disproving your security theories. <next part incomprehendable by anyone literate>

Goodbye friends (don't you like how white people can't just spell it "homie," especially the idiots who do the closed captioning...).

OR...if you want the short vesion of the above translation try this:

"blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah."

Kevorkian can help you, IronFist.

You see IronFist, that's where you are dead wrong.
There IS concrete (concrete enough for this community anyways) proof that you hack, you play as other people with malicious intent, and are a person that is to never be trusted.

So you might as well quit developing software for paintball2 because the software will be considered garbage, just like the developer. I will never knowingly use a piece of software developed by you. You are a menace and should be banished from the paintball community forever (if only we could do that).

You disgust me.

But what you fail to relaize IF is...
No one will play on your server.
No one here will use you software.
No one approves of your weak blackmail attmepts.
No one cares for your meek attempts at trying to fool us all into believing you are some sort of needed entity in the exposure of cheaters or security flaw laden servers.
No one likes you.

You have chosen to place yourself near the top of the unwanted list of people that just don't get the message that no one wants them around.

Hacking a compression dll for your application? There are numerous open source and free source compression alogorithms on the web. Only a moron would attempt to hack something that's readily available. And hacking a simple dll such as a compression only dll is childs play. Chances are good that you can find out the exposed functions/methods/properties unmangled and take a bit of time to guess, or deduce, the arguments. Not brain surgery. You can also use software to mount the dll and have it exposed for you. Chicken scratch. Or you could disassemble the dll and rebuild it using the ASM source for reference.
