how about a theme park/carnival map with things such as:
a ferris wheel
a game with a tiny target trigger to open up a door to a paint grenade or autococker
a drop ride where at the small amount of time where you are at the top, you can enter a room leading to a sniping tower
an area only accessible by train or roller coaster
water rides with a current
shoot-a-mole where a target comes up and shooting it causes another one to pop up, until the last one opens up a door to a prize
anyone have any other ideas?

That would be extremely hard to make >.<

That would be extremely hard to make >.<
yeah it would
-
r_speeds would be through the roof, and the amount of brushwork it would take to make these rides would be phenomenal. Not the mention all the custom textures that would need to be made.
-
And the evilness of all moving entities ever. Aligning the path_corners would be a 2 week nightmare.
-
maybe if many people worked together on it it may possibly somehow be made. if it is, it would be really cool, don't you agree
-
No?

As a community map it could maybe work. But everyone would have to do a ride, instead of an area, and combine them all in the end. If a group of say 6 or so all got started and picked rides, i could see this map happening. Why dont you try to organize it gir? ;)

If I learn more about enties, all the other commands, and more on models, I would helpout. I know I want to learn alot, but Im a quick learner
-
truth is I could never ever do it on my own. I don't know that much either.

I've started a ferris wheel map, but I can't even get the thing to rotate! Besides, that would take forever to compile and download.

Hm I want to say you have to use func_rotate to have that rotate.
-
lmao
This would take too much of the current game's resources to do properly.
I know a good number of the mappers round here could probably figure out how to do any one part of this idea, but combining the whole would explode the engine and compilers.
The entity stuff, by itself, is not a large issue once you understand entities.
-
I think its a bad idea.
This community doesnt really need a carnival type map anyway, plus the game play is way to fast for it.

no, Really?
(still a n00b to mapping, lol) Anyway, with the baskets on the ferris wheel, I've had a hard time getting the baskets to carry you with func_train. When I jump on them, I freeze, but the trains move on! When they pass, I fall down. Am I doin it rite?

Have you read my thread on making a ferris wheel? http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=9263.0 - I'd recommend you did before deciding to spend any more time on a ferris wheel.
The conclusion I came to is that its pretty, but not really worth it. The problem you're having is because you're in observer mode, by the way. add a bot to your testing server and wait till the round begins, then it should be solid, but you'll find - as did I - that it doesn't work as smoothly as you'd expect anyway.

Ah, thanks! I'll try to keep working at it.
