Title: I made a map! In space!
Post by: Eiii on June 27, 2005, 04:59:54 PM
Ooh. A map. What do you think? Too many ambient noises?

Oh well. Try to find the base and how to get there! It's hard at first.

there is a problem with the map
all the players spawn in the same spot.  :o

you should fix that.

i like the idea of the flags.

i have a question: how did you put those plants that are on the river  ???
and how did you make those trees?

I know. It's a beta. I haven't done any entity work, apart from the plants, sounds, and flags/bases.

The trees I made by making a texture, giving it transparency, then putting two per trunk that were perpendicular bisectors of each other.

The plants? func_model models/plants/bigleaf2.md2.

mmhh...
could you give me a copy of the texture?  :)

It's included in the download. To use it, you have to make a foder named 'eiii' in 'C:\BSP\Quake2\pball\textures', then copy another .wal file to it, and name it leaves.wal, or whatever it's actually named. You won't see it in BSP, but it'll show up in the game.

Hmm, well, it's unique.  The brushwork is kind of sloppy, though -- there are gaps all over the place.  The fences are kind of annoying (multiple paths goood one path baaad) yet somewhat pointless as experienced players can jump around them.  The water is annoying since you can't get out on the shores.  Being able to swim up a waterfall is pretty silly.  I think I'd take the teleporter out and turn the big lights into jump pads.  r_speeds are pretty high for the amount of detail in the map.  It also needs some team indicators so you can tell which side you're on.

I really wanted to make the lights jump pads, but they just didn't work. Made a brush, made an info_null, targeted the brush to the null, and nothing happened. Also, the waterfall thing is in there just for kicks. You'd have to be stupid to do that in an actual game.
Also, about the fences. Without them, it's way to easy to get to your base. So, now, you can jump across the river, at some risk, you can go to your base and teleport around, which is stupid, but you won't fall. Finally, you could jump around the fence. Fast, but have fun falling off. And you can get out of the water, if you just get on a rock.
And from me, you really can't expect good brushwork. It looks fine if you don't look too close, and that's fine with me. ;)

And in case you haven't noticed, I strive for uniqueness.

You need to use info_notnull.  The info_null's get deleted at compile time (used for lights only).  And quit being lazy with your brushwork. :)

Ah. But wouldn't the nulls be used to set the angles of the lights?

Also, for next version-- moving info_nulls.
MOVING JUMP DESTS/ SPOTLIGHTS!!

fun.

info_nulls are used at compile time only for spotlights, then they are deleted (thus the null).  Spotlights can't move.

Thank You

I tried that, but it didn't work. It gave me an error when I tried to post it.

EDIT: Hey, if I point it to the place I uploaded, it'll work.

Was your map inspired at all by this?

No, but that's weird. It was inspired by something, but I'll not tell you. And no one will find it becasue no one is in the community in which it was first created.
