Title: Player Etiquette
Post by: sk89q on September 11, 2007, 03:21:20 PM
What are some etiquettes that players should adhere to?

Its different for pub and match play I guess.

Match:

- No mm1
- No disconnects at inappropriate times

Some general things like:

- ns after a nice shot (but not every shot!)

Generally just use common sense or your better judgment to what is right.

If you do something wrong, I'm sure many people will try to correct you :)

Yeah in match play I don't say excrement but in pubs all I do is talk excrement. Most of the time I do that more than play in pubs.

Help new players, like the ones that are playing for the first time. For example, if a newbie tries to cap a flag in his own base (actually happened, and it was funny as hell), tell him that he/she needs to cap on the opponents base.

i laughed so hard after reading y00tz' post. priceless.
Match play:
1. Give lagged out players a fair chance to unlag and resume gameplay
2. If a player is idle, drop all flags, and wait for revives or let them idle out into observer

Pub play:
1. Don't cap on newbies
2. Be helpful to anyone, whether it be game play issues or out of game issues if possible
3. If you don't know answers to the ^ questions, send them to the forums

That is something that really needs to be addressed.

You can no longer deepend on intellegent people to treat others with respect.

One thing that's always bugged me:
- Take the time to type a response.  Don't use binds.

I'd rather have a simple "ns" than have somebody smash a button repeatedly that spams an annoying, colored, "$)(%*&^#(#(#(%***NiCe SHoT***#@$(((}}**&&&@$$$!!@%%".  Even a clean "Nice shot!" bind is a lot more impersonal than a typed "ns" and more of an annoyance than a complement.

I agree with jitspoe. It doesn't say that you spent the effort of actually acknowledging a nice shot, etc.

I think all complement binds are ok. That is, unless someone just says "ns" or "nice shot" after every time they get killed.  I have a "nice one" bind, but I only say it when it's actually nice, like I don't say it if I try to grab, and a flag-liner shoots me. I mean, it's a fast paced game, sometimes, binds help.

If i feel a shot was so impressive that i had to say nice shot, i actually take the time to type it out

Going along with compliments like nice/good shot, I think it's common courtesy to stop and thank the person that said it.. I often find myself hitting a jump, typing "ty" midair, then going on playing :P

How the hell do you pull that off?!

stop spamming and calling people noobs or campers. it gets so aggravating when one person say noob everytime he killed.

Use e-s-d-f instead of w-a-s-d, make the one of the right-handed home keys messagemode.

just.. do... mostly just when I have time though.. like doing cat->window->grass/cat on pp1, you have a good couple second window of time midair, so if you dont have to do any shooting you can just [t]ty[enter] real fast...

also, i hate it when people say "Did I say that?" shows how arrogant some people are. its only effective when u retailate against a person that says the latter

Spook interesting point.

There is a difference between nice shot and "OMFG WOW, HOW DID YOU DO THAT IMPRESSIVE SHOT!"

One is a common courtesy in a FPS. (This common behavior stimulates growth and report)

The other is an acknowledgement of a spectacular move.

So say say nice shot, when you get shot. It wont hurt you and if you choose not to ok but if you do get shot dont act like an ass.

excretory openings FTW and DP growth?

I think not.
