Title: 1GB Enough to run Vista?
Post by: QueeNiE on September 16, 2007, 11:59:22 AM
Well I'm thinking about purchasing a new computer with the following spec's.  Tell me if you think it's good enough to run vista. (not saying that I want vista on it, but that's what it comes with ;) )

Code: [Select]
    * Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor with Hyper Threading Technology & 3.20GHz Processor Speed
    * 250GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
    * 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM memory for multitasking power, expandable up to 2GB.
    * SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology
    * Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 64MB Dedicated Graphics
    * 10/100Base-T Network Interface
    * I/O Ports: 15-In-1 Memory Card Reader, 6 x USB 2.0 Ports (2 front, 4 back), 2 x Firewire Ports (front, back)
    * Windows Vista Home Premium operating system preinstalled; other software package includes Roxio Creator, Muvee AutoProducer, Roxio MyDVD Basic, RealPlayer, Microsoft Works 8, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Trial, Adobe Reader 7.0, HP Total Care Advisor, Norton Internet Security 2007 (60 day complimentary updates)
    * 17" Widescreen LCD Monitor Included

Yeah, I'm cheap but I think it's a good deal for the moo-lah.

1 gig is fine but I question the 2 gig limit for memory.  I would prefer a 4 gig.
Other than that, looks fine.

I was under the impression that Vista needed a fairly good amount of video card memory. It doesn't seem to me that 64mb would cut it, nor would 1gig of RAM.

EDIT: At least, for the pretty version of Vista. For all I know, that'll run basic fine.

1 gig runs vista like how 128-256 runs XP.

1gig is fine.. it will cut it with default settings but if you really want it to do good you should turn off aero.. saving all those alpha blits and such to offscreen buffers takes a lot of ram
