Bugs, Feature Requests, and Feedback / Re: Build 33
« on: December 07, 2011, 09:09:25 PM »
Seems pretty dumb.

As you can all see by the demos posted... This update will ruin the ability to play a majority of maps, if not completely destroy the matching scene entirely.

This update should not be implemented, if possible I would like to request a feature vote to NOT implement this.

I see a large number of older players in the active match scene leaving if this goes through, most likely including myself.

You are misinformed, he never left. He simply plays less.

Paintball 2 Discussion / Re: My 2 cents. Cause I know everyone wants it
« on: October 04, 2011, 07:03:06 PM »
I am very fond of this game myself and I've wanted it to return to it's former glory for a while now.

I believe trash talking is what ruined this game, especially coming from hackers who 'pretend' and 'convince' newer players that are legitimately good.
This is a HUGE problem for newer players trying to get into the scene.

As many of you may know I have tried to start training clans to help bring new players into the community.
My efforts fail as most of the players were not interested in the clan scene because of how serious people take it.
They were not interested by being verbally abused and down talked constantly in matches.
Yes, it is the internet and they should be ignored but it's still terribly annoying and it does get you worked up regardless.

Other existing players that wanted to be trained were already tainted by a select few players whom they looked up to and adapted their bad attitudes of trash talking constantly and down talking their fellow players.
I tried to teach my recruits how to have a good time and to ALWAYS say 'Good Game' regardless of how badly you lose.

I do not believe the Global Login is the cause of the matching scene dying. Possibly the ridiculous bad times which should most likely be looked at.
The people who did not return when the Global login was implemented were clearly all players who hacked.
Some even admitted to not wanting to return because they couldn't use whatever mod or hack they used at the time.

The players who have been banned recently DESERVE to be banned.
The older bans should possibly be reduced or they should be unbanned.

One thing that I do believe should be implemented and is so for most other games is that once a new hack is found, it should be patched into the game and rendered mute.
For example, the constant speed hackers would not be able to use the same program that they have been using for years now.

As for multiple accounts, the people who have done so ALL knew what they were doing and should be banned.
If there is a language barrier problem then perhaps a new home screen with language select.

I think this community NEEDS the Global Login but that it's too extreme and needs to be taken down a notch.
Removing the Global Login is NOT the answer to the problems the community is having.

Aside from that, I'm sure there can be a way for people to help Jitspoe out with texturing or whatever needs to be done to 'clean' up this game a little more and make it more presentable.
As long as it doesn't involve a HUGE graphics enhancement as one of the appeals to this game is that it is playable on old computers.

I believe that arguments about the Global Login can be thrown back and forth but considering I used to be against it, and am now supportive of it after much thought. I think the points I have made should be taken into consideration.

I did this very quickly because I'm about to go out, I am willing to clarify anything if I do not explain it properly.

Since shk refused to give up his demo unless we post on the forums, here is the post.

Need the demo for pbcup_forest, propaint1 and castle1.

Too many suspicious times to name.

Please and thanks.

P.S. No flame wars, only thing needed to be posted is shk demos.

I heard that a while ago so I instantly stopped using them...

I have no intentions of being banned again.

On a side note, I'm using the "Green Scrawl" HUD, is that allowed? It doesn't enhance my play at all.
I just don't see why it's red... It's a team color... so I chose I neutral color instead.

Honestly, I absolutely LOVE the textures in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1sje8xNKBw

I personally think they look amazing, especially on prolandr.

I don't think I'm explaining the "toony" thing right and perhaps "toony" isn't the best word to explain.

The textures in this video have a "toonish" look to them.

If you look at prolandr and propaint1 you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'm not suggesting we turn the game into a horrible looking cartoon or anything of that sort.

I just really don't see the point trying to make a game with unrealistic physics look real.

Warsow is a great example of a cartoon styled game.

"Toonish" style is nice too, but:
1. It makes seeing enemy harder

I disagree, the toonish style makes it easier to see people. An example would be everyone using those light blue/baby pink barrels because of that exact reason.

2. If it isn't really good looking, it might be considert as trash.

Trying to make a Quake 2 mod look realistic would look like trash. But giving it a new look and style would possibly attract players because of it's uniqueness instead of trying to be like every other game out there when it's clearly not.

I don't know why you want this, old models have low vertices count, and they just make game more annoying (i hate player dying animation).

The new models for me are really hard to see... Since I've switch I know my aim has gotten a lot worse. You may not like them but I know a lot of other players do. Even if it's not the main model it should be included as an option so players like myself can enjoy them.

P.S - All of this is my opinion, although I know a lot of other players feel the same way.

I agree with Myers.

I don't understand why we are trying to make an unrealistic game 'look' real.

Because of the physics this game it will never be realistic so why not appeal to the 'toonish' style, which would greatly improve the look and appeal of the game.

Jitspoe's HR4 barrels look considerably more real than the light blue/baby pink ones, BUT the lighter barrels suit the game more.

Another example would be models, the old models are SO much better and I really miss them and would appreciate it if Jitspoe would include support for them again. (PLEASE)

Do they look real? Hell no! Are they more visually appealing than the current?

Yes, the new models are so stiff and boring to look at...

They look more real but they  don't go with the 'tooniness' (lol) of this game.

I love that sound. It's also in all of the LoTR movies.

Fits well into the game, in my opinion.

Cheater Reports and Bans / Re: Cheat/Mod Detected: QuiX
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:38:13 PM »
A perfectly reasonable and justified cause. Well done Jitspoe, as always.

If you're stupid enough to hack knowing that you will be banned hence killing the game, it's YOUR fault for breaking the rules. Jitspoe isn't killing the game, it's your own faults.

Disappointed in you Mara.

And just to clarify for sting/myers/quix...

I lied to be banned, not to avoid being banned.

My hacks were made by me, and only used by me.

Example...

If you go into a police station and say that you were speeding, no punishment will be given...

If you speed and lie to a police officer about speeding and argue with them, I'm pretty sure your punishment would be increased.

Demo Requests / Re: Request: juiicy demo
« on: October 29, 2010, 04:14:14 PM »
I would like to suggest and elaborate on a few simple suggestions that may quicken and reduce the process of demo requests.

-Only 3 people are allowed to post in each thread.
*The Accuser
*The Accused
*The committee

There is no reason for any other player to be posting in these threads other than creating pointless arguments which lead to nothing and waste everyone's time.

-The Accuser must post their demo first and explain their request as someone else has suggested.

It's a pain to go back and look for demo's and it's time consuming uploading them
The accuser should have to go through the same process to be fair.

On an additional note... If someone does not wish to have their demo publicly viewed they should be able to post it to the accused (as well as copy in a committee member) then return to the forum to simple confirm that it was received.

-During the match if a player sees something suspicious they should request that the accused confirms the demo is recording (If possible to do so)

This will end the "Oh sorry, didn't record. sucks to be you" act, especially on the map 'wobulda'.

It may also be of interest for the time being that when you are playing on the map 'wobulda' you ask the other team to record demos if they're to be requested considering the problems there is with the map.

-If there is a constant array of demo requests for a specific player, who refuses to provide a demo will result in a ban and ONLY under the following circumstances (Which would be lifted as soon as the accused provides the demo)

Because simply refusing to give a demo 'cannot' result in a ban.

This of course is a touchy subject which would need a lot of time to fairly work out but if a player time after time again refuses to provide a demo (multiple times, not just once) with the accuser providing all information along with their demo and suspicious moments that have been viewed by the committee and have been determined by at least 60% of them to be suspicious moments then a player will be banned due to the fact that there is evidence that they are possibly doing something wrong and they refuse to disprove it.

***THIS IS SOMETHING SIMPLY TO BE CONSIDERING, I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY FULLY THOUGHT ABOUT IT MYSELF AND IT SHOULD BE TAKEN UNDER SERIOUS CONSIDERATION ONLY BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBLE UNFAIRNESS OF THE SUBJECT MATTER***

Paintball 2 Discussion / Re: DPlogin
« on: November 28, 2009, 02:03:02 PM »
The login system is installed, implemented, and takes ZERO time away from any other aspect of the game. The only headaches that it has caused is when the cheat detection detects a hacker or someone uses multiple accounts.

Sure, lets kill dplogin and everything will be fine.

Epic fail....

Well a lot of players are banned for multiple accounts and then never play again, usually new players who don't know any better, I'm not saying to completely kill it.. Maybe simplify it? Make it less constricted?
I think we should really think about not having it or changing it, other games go on just fine without any kind of login system besides their forums.
Depending on how quick the detection system is the person could be banned from playing for a short amount of time so they don't just quit because they are banned for 2 years because their friend wanted to play around hacking.
OR if someone like myself got fed up with people hacking while nobody was or would do anything about it.
I guarantee that more players will play, if work something like that out.

BUT of course idiots like Zaltekk would be banned for longer if not permabanned because of there intentional actions to ruin the DP community.

Paintball 2 Discussion / Re: DPlogin

I'm pretty sure this is the only Standalone Quake mod still running that has a login system... I don't see ANY name spoofing on other games nor do i see clan spoofing... If someone misbehaves in any way, the server admin (Usually a clan member) just kickbans them for 15 mins... nothing more and it works.
They do the same with hackers.
The login system has caused a lot of headaches and has taken away a lot of time which could be spent on more important matters like getting new players into the game and keeping them here.
I personally noticed that the people in DP are different than in other games... I noticed that a lot of younger players wanting to be the best above all others will do whatever they can to win as well as throw out some horrible trash talk which is pretty pathetic in most cases.
In other games they seem to be more mature and respect their fellow gamemates, they don't spoof each other names or wear a clans tag which aren't theirs...
They relax and play... They don't try their little hearts out and then when they are losing say they forfeit for some stupid reason which makes no sense at all.
In conclusion I think we should work out some way to live without DP login... Multi clanning is a bad idea...
Make up your mind, the clan you are in shouldn't be because such and such player is better than this player...
It should be made up of people you enjoy playing with, people you can just relax on vent and say "nice try bro"
Instead of "WHAT THE #^$% IS YOUR PROBLEM?!?!? I RECONED WHERE HE WAS! YOU SUCK"

I mean it won't help getting players into the game... It MIGHT bring back some of the older guy's but we really need to work out a way to get new players into the game and have it so they actually know what they are doing...
Instead of asking everyone for help and of course they'll say statements like "I'm hacking that's how!" or "Just play noob"
We need a tutorial OR I was just think of perhaps having a jump map with trigger's that teach you how to do the jump?
Maybe that could be AFTER the tutorial for practice after they watch a video.
