Server Discussion / Need a new host for my DPMatchreserve website

Hi all, the free webhost that I use for my matchserver leasing site seems to have firewalled out access to the matchservers. I need to move to another free webhost that supports DPMatchreserve. I remember when I set this up initially that finding a free PHP host with the right ports open wasn't easy. If anyone can recommend a free host that they know works with DPMatchreserve I'd be very grateful, I don't get much time for this these days.

Hi all, sorry to announce that pressures of work etc leave me little time for online gaming these days and I will not be renewing the subscritption for my VPS at the end of the month.

Thanks to all the people who have supported Tart's Dirty Den, I will probably drop in for a game now and then on Narcism or one of the other excellent Euro servers. If anyone is interested in taking over the VPS, get in touch but you'll have to be quick and no timewasters please.

Cheater Reports and Bans / Player exploiting tban command being accidentally left open on my server

A number of my regulars got pretty pissed off last night when a player called DANtypeR started exploiting an error in my server config that left some admin commands including tban open for all players to use.
Now I know there is an argument that it shouldn't have been possible to use this command, but equally just because it was available does not mean that he was justified in spoiling the game for a number of other people. I do not want him back on my server, I have banned his IP, is it possible to ban him by MAC address? It has been suggested I ban him by subnet, but that may affect other people.
What do other people think, is this acceptable behaviour?

Due to increasing popularity I've relocated the server onto a VPS. Not many players on there yet but the pings look excellent (the lowest so far is 29). Come and give it a try, especially if you're in UK/europe.

Why do people do it? I've kicked and temporary banned several players today for doing it, it's really pissing me off.
I'm going to password protect the join command and make the password available on the server webpage along with an explanation as to why I've done it. I hate doing that but it ruins the game.

What really gets my goat is the lamers that always change to the winning team (most of the ones I've seen are from one particular nationality). How about a server side setting to only allow players to change to the losing team?

Hi,
What I would like to be able to do on my server is to have a few acebots join the game when there is only one player, but leave as soon as a second player joins. This helps allieviate the problem that nobody really wants to join an empty server.
I have the Gladiator bots on my Quake2 server configured to do this and I think it works well.

It's been running a few weeks now, but I thought it was time I formally announced my new public server Tarts Dirty Den at 92.233.16.92:27920
I also run a Quake2 server at 92.233.16.92:27910 and the website for both is www.tartsdirtyden.wetpaint.com
My intention is to provide a fun, friendly server for people who don't take the game too seriously. IMHO it's not cheating that is ruining online gaming, it's paranoia about cheating. So please people, stop complaining about cheats and hacks every time you get beaten and just enjoy the game for what it is... Just a game
