Doesn't Starcraft have a patch that adds TCP/IP support?

no it requires you to set the connection to IPX (which vista didn't include in the install list).  and to answer KnacK, d00m and starcraft are both made by Blizzard, and both require that setting.  I believe they fixed that for Warcraft 3 though.

I have a new problem now however.  Since my last attempt at that, somehow the password got changed for my user on my PC.  Now I can't even log into windows.  I even tried booting in safe mode, but that still requires a password.  Anybody have ideas on that one??

Just go out and get a cheap router to play LAN games on.

I knew I could probably do that, but I already had the cable.

yes you can buy why would you do it?

By using a cross over cable, you have to assign an ip address to each computer.

What game are you trying to play?

Ok so static IP's are all I need?  I'm trying to get anything to work right now, but DP2, starcraft or warcraft is usually the top of the list.
starcraft is a real pain because to have run through IPX which vista didn't come with.

Right now I'm bumming a neighbor's wireless connection for internet access.  The problem is that the internet goes in and out and lately has not been part of the connection.  ie. I can always connect to a local or limited connection, but only rarely will the signal be connected to the web.  Is there anything on my end that's causing that?  (signal strength is not the issue, I'm pretty sure)

Anybody know how to set up a game with a direct cable between 2 computers?  I've tried a few different things, but I know it's possible with a cat5 crossover cable.  I also am thinking that vista is difficult to connect wth XP.
hit me with some knowledge...

could've been worse.  I will say that he had it coming...strongbad would have made light of his spelling error, and mocked his name too.

yeah the game reads volume wheel up as 'b' and down as 'c.'  What's wierd is that I have NO key bound to screenshot in the config.

yeah, I'm not enjoying it too much since the game freezes for a good 5 sec. while it's saving the pics.

Heh, unbind your screenshot key ingame.

I've actually never tried, is that ~ unbind screenshot, or do you just set it to nothing in the setup menu?

So I just got a new laptop, and I installed build19 on it and I've noticed that somehow when I turn the volume wheel down on the front of the laptop it takes screenshots.  So I keep getting like 10 of the Main Menu every time I start, because I adjust the volume down.

I can avoid all that, but does anyone know why or how that got bound?  Or better yet, how do I make it stop?

And while I am asking questions, do FPS settings impact jumping?

I noticed when I used a slow computer a couple years ago that I could not jump as high, and my characters movements looked choppy from everyone else's vantage.  I was also using build15 at the time; when I upgraded to build16 it fixed the problem.  So I'm not sure if that's your issue.

When does or where does a FPS skill set become a winning factor? I find those games much more full of machismo.

Then just play those games.  Why should DP2 copy all of their styles?

if anyone wants the name menu, just PM me your names, and I'll format it and send it back.

I'm not up with all the clan stuff, but I could also probably make a button that adds/removes the clan tag to the current name.

I have a menu that sets my name to different themes/colors if anyone wants it.  You could use it to just change names if you're not a rainbow person...

if you wanted a lot of work you could add a color bar to each menu with cvar's that would change the theme of the individual pages.  Or you could just have a separate menu/bar on the main menu, that sets all the menus to a color theme with cvar's.

That would cover your colors.  For themes changing you could change the main menu to a pre-main menu that would select a theme and direct to different sets of menus.  That way it would be like a "mood mod" that I could change colors according to how I'm feeling...or not.

...you could get pretty creative with that...
