Server Discussion / Direct Connecting to a Server?

Right now I'm trying to create a server where a few of my friends can play however I'm having a little trouble, I've followed all the instructions on the FAQ server guide yet my server won't pop-up on the server list. I don't have a router but I do have a firewall ( Zonealarm) and I've tried turning it off and checking if the server pops up on the list but it still doesn't. Soooo my questions are what can I do still? and despite the fact that my server doesn't show up on the server list here (http://dplogin.com/serverlist.php) is there still a way my buddies can just directly connect to my server without having to go through the game's server list? If so how? Thanks!  ;)
