I for one, prefer playing solo than on a team. It isn't that I work poorly with others or not cooperative at being a "team-player", its just that i find playing solo in this game more fun and challenging. Plus you don't have to worry about other players to cover, block, or fail you.

i despise it when i join a DM map and its set on TDM, i'd rather just play ctf or koh.

I'd like to see more DM maps made though bc there are way too few of them compared to ctf.

i don't think that's necessarily true. IF players enjoy speed servers bc of the fast respawn time, then forcing them into servers may deter them from playing at all. (just a thought) [like if you took away Vanilla ice cream, then would every just eat Chocolate? would depend on how much they desired ice cream i guess]

Another factor that lead new players to quit the game is that group of players usually called "spawners", for a simple reason: they do not let new players move around the maps, they (the new players) simply get tired and quit the game.


there's not really a "group" of players called spawners. That's just what you are when you constantly sit in the spawn area of a map and kill players the sec they revive. Unfortunately most/many of the spawners are the new players.
Continuous spawn killing is a big reason for the desire to play in servers with higher spawn times, having to wait 30-60 seconds prevents spawnkilling (ofc not 100%)
Sometimes a spawn kill is necessary/unavoidable depending on the situation (ex: when you know someone is about to respawn and don't want them to come up behind you while your attemping to cap), but the main problem in speed servers are those who chose to camp in the spawn areas instead of grabbing flag or better yet hunting the remaining enemy that are not spawn-trapped.

1 way to try and prevent spawnkilling would be for map-makers to take into consideration the location of spawn areas. set them up in such a way that it would be hard for someone to sit and spawn or easy for players to avoid being spawn killed. (maybe multiple spawn areas or making sure you start with a gun to return fire) [*these are all just possible solutions off the top of my head]

If you don't like playing speed servers then just don't play them, and go into a non-speed server... then if enough players do this than the non-speed server will fill up. This will then give some of the players who constantly play the speed servers (and either don't go into other servers bc they are empty or don't go on forums to read this) a choice. Once the non-speed servers are populated it will at least have a chance to draw in players from speed servers.

i do agree that people need to quit complaining and its also alright to have an opinion, but maybe try some constructive criticism. Rather than just knocking down an idea, attempt to provide an alternative solution.

would be good if there were some way to alert players waiting for a non-speed server to get populated that others were waiting too. there are probably many times when a handful of players are all searching for the right server but choose not to sit and wait in an empty for others to join.

something like the green/yellow/red path that helps you know the best route and when to slow down/speed up in car racing games?
would be interesting if possible

Other games to play, work, sleeping, etc etc

I play when I have some free time to kill, usually not that often.
this game is good for quick bursts and real easy to jump into quickly, either 5 minutes or an hour, its fast and still fun for me.

Its tough to get new players interested in this game for sure... its old, and compared to all the new games out nowadays, its graphics aren't very appealing to most modern gamers. This game really is an acquired taste, you have to take time to get into it. Most likely the easiest way to get new players into it is having friends who already play it or will join with them.
 teaching them the basics may help get some to stay (tutorial). implement goals/achievements, something for players to strive for and earn while getting better. Obvious target for Ads would be FPS players that want something quick and simple, although i'm not a huge FPS player myself and i ended up getting into it after a while.

those 10 maps will most likely be ones that older players already play constantly and/or know very well. So new players will still be at a disadvantage until they practice... it takes time to get good at anything. I don't feel limiting maps will solve new players lack of experience... bc that's what it really comes down to experience... not the map. Knowing a map will help but only so much. New players need something that will convince them to take the time needed to learn the game and get better. Any game that new players enter will require time and practice.

if you were to go ahead with this idea you should create 10 completely new maps that no one has had time to memorize.

*also i like the ideas on some sort of goals/achievements. Whether it be missions, xp, or even more detail into gaining stats. Just something for players to work towards might get some new ones to stay.

Its a fine idea for your own server(s)... but to force all servers to limit the amount of maps allowed is just wrong.
Most maps are played repeatedly anyway, so unless you are on a beta/map server, you will eventually learn the maps over time.

if those running the servers wanted to only have 10 maps in their server wouldn't they have just done this themselves already?

what is with all the pgptrain Haters?! i am shocked, i have only heard good comments about that map except from people who don't like to use pgp.

that's one  of the best maps to play, best pgpmap at least... well maybe tied with arm (though arm is a dm, so not sure if its a fair comparison), imo.
