Disappointing, but fair's fair, I guess. Thanks for giving me a chance anyway.

I'll review your case with the committee.

If that was directed towards me, then thanks, Jits. (There _is_ a committee, right?)

Jitspoe:

The binary couldn't possibly have been exactly the same size, and yet I didn't get a warning. The extra few bytes (666) in the version define would have made sure it was larger. But fine, I guess I have little choice but to wait the ban out... again, despite gaining no material benefit by changing the build number. It's almost unfathomable why you refuse to let a stupid little thing like this slide, but whatever, I guess.

P.S. What if a person compiled the source with higher or lower level optimizations on the compiler level? Would they be singled out, too? Also, if you'd like, I could send you my PB binary and you could see for yourself that there's only a few byte difference between it and a vanilla compile.

Magalhaes:

It'd be nice, but the ban's for 60 days, unless a little leniency - and perhaps common sense - is exercised.

Ryex:

Not that I agree with your use of the ZGH Multihack, at least you came clean about it, if only after the actual ban :D. If you've got any games that can be played on Linux, then sure, I'll play with you. Been too long.

Really? Closest thing I can find in what I assume to be the End User License Agreement (the text files named 'license', as well as 'paintball2agreement' is this:

"By installing and using Paintball2, you agree not

to use any cheats or modify the game content in order to gain an

unfair advantage while playing against human opponents."

First, it's not a cheat, second, it doesn't give me an advantage by any stretch of the imagination. (Not unless people think I'm Satan and can't bring themselves to shoot at me :D)

And let's face it, even WERE it explicitly stated, who reads the license agreements anyway? I had - obviously wrongly - assumed that since Jitspoe had kindly licensed the game under the terms of the GNU Public License that this sort of corporate shafting attitude would be nonexistant.

You've got to be kidding? I use Linux, I changed the build number to 666 for a laugh, recompiled the source, voila. I guess my opensource enthusiasm took me over. Where exactly is it stated that that's against the rules???

Seriously, 60 days for a completely innocent violation of a rule I've never seen? I'm really beginning to hate this community. I see countless speedhackers, racists and just plain idiots online every time I play, and far as I see, they're just ignored by whoever enforces the bans while people like me take inconceivable amounts of flak for _this_?

As an afterthought, shouldn't there be a built-in warning that appears when you run a modified binary of PB?

Staggeringly beautiful, ain't it? ;D I'm almost weeping blood here.

Aw, thanks, Ryex. Happy to see you cared enough to register in the forums just to say so ;D

Hope to see you in the game soon.

Then perhaps he isn't as much of an amateur as I thought. Still, the hardware hash of the computer is associated with my account anyway.

:-\ Oops, sorry for repeating the point. As for my brother, he doesn't have his own account to the best of my knowledge. I have automatic login enabled, which would probably explain his use of my account.

I'd like to point out that regardless of what DPLogin account is being used, if you're using the same connection in the same house to your ISP, your IP address will still be the same.

Of course, I completely understand that, and am fully prepared to take the ban. I'm sorry if I sounded rude and/or confrontational, as I said, I was just pissed off. Thanks for your help, though. :)

I see. I find the inflexibility - and lack of address to my previous question - unfortunate and disturbing, to say the least; I am still quite a beginner, but thanks anyway for your time. Hopefully I'll be back in a month, if my smart mouth doesn't earn me a deserved ban...  :-\

lol I agree about Tiscali being complete excrement, and as for whoever did the cheating, I'm going to beat the living crap out of them.

Is there really no precedent to have this reversed, though?? I can't believe I'm banned for a whole month, even though there are plenty of reputable players that can vouch for me. btw, is it actually known for certain whether this was actually done through the computer I own or whether I've by some freak chance inherited the IP address of another player?

Ok, without meaning to come off as too confrontational, this is complete BS. I have not, never have and never will, used any form of cheat program. I have two family members who also play DP, but I'm offended that one or both of us should have to pay for the other's crap. Please, the last thing I need is a month-long ban for something I have absolutely no knowledge of doing, i.e cheating in this otherwise great game. :(

I've read the FAQ regarding family members, etc. but I really appeal to you to reverse this unfair ban, Jitspoe...

Thank you for the advice, Lekky. As soon as we get a few more members, an IRC channel and web-site will definitely be set up. As for the guide, it was very informative, ty for writing it, btw :)

We aim to be more commando oriented, as it were; actual teamwork and crack shooting skills are a must as a result.

Some good attributes:

Courteous, even to sworn rivals (as in no insults, no racism, homophobia, sexism, etc.)
Capable of working well in sub-teams
Very accurate long-range aim
An ability to have fun without taking things too seriously

The usual definition of elite. If you can, say, hit a target half a map away with ease, then you're probably what we hope to produce.

I didn't request elite members, I merely said that we aim to make them. This is, after all, a serious endeavour.

Thank you for the link, but despite this account's age, I'm not new to the game.  ;)

« on: April 09, 2008, 01:48:35 AM »
]xV.b[ is looking for new members. As this clan is geared towards sharpshooters, applicants are required to tryout. You don't have to be a god-like shooter, as we also provide training for those seriously wanting to get better.

Dedication, loyalty, and an ability to work with others are required. A good attitude and respect for others - including rivals - is a must. Ideally, the clan will be comprised of thirteen elite members, many of whom will preferably be excellent shooters, long and short range.

Former [ASU] and [ASU.b] members are especially welcome to apply.

To tryout, contact me by email: kaysl13@googlemail.com (I will reply fairly quickly)  or  find me or my second in command on the servers, and we'll arrange one as soon as possible.
