Resolved Help & Support / Re: Mouse "sensitivity" lags
« on: August 26, 2014, 10:34:38 PM »
What you would use ideally:
60hz refresh
gl_swapinterval 1
cl_maxfps 120, 90, or 66 (66 is ideal for double jumps, can switch to 120 for ramps, 90 for strafes and cjs, 27 for ladders and triples, 22 for standing djs/cjs)
cl_async 0 (i think client forces this anyways)

I had an issue a bit ago with awful response times at random points like you are having, I could have sworn it came up when I was playing the the cl_draw cmds, but who knows. I did a fresh install and I never had the issue again.

Does anyone know if cl_async can be set to 1(toggled on)?

I found out recently that it is a feature that the pro's use in the real Quake2 Jump servers so that when they lower their FPS with cl_maxfps, they don't experience the "choppy screen effect". However, they still have the advantage of using that specified capped FPS # to perform that specific intended jump.

I think what most of them would do is for any given map, they would toggle between two different fps caps maybe sometimes 3 or more for the entire map. so either like 66 or 90 for one map, and then another 120 66, or 120 90. i'm not 100% but obviously the more times you have to switch your fps in a map for certain jumps might drastically effect your finish time on that map. However I also think that's something the map creators will take into consideration when designing their maps maybe. I'm not too sure on all that map editing stuff but yeah xd

Also I'm not too sure about what FPS is good for what, but I heard that certain fps will make you strafe faster (bigger jumps) and stuff like that so yeah i think most, if not all of what ace is saying is right.

also a cool jump video by n00k!e i stumbled upon last weekish that is really cool you should all check it out. its called n00k!e 1337 miles per hour.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goaEiIY0R-Y

he's most likely the best pure jumper Quake II has ever seen. pretty epic video too 19mins long. he makes it look easy though ;) good music too must watch!!

Also as Ace was saying, cl_async is forced to 0 by the client. I'm not sure why this is? or if it is just default and can be changed... hmm?

Other Stuff / Re: Quake Live anyone? - Update!
« on: April 28, 2009, 07:03:37 AM »
New guns?  Its getting better :D.  Its back to only seeing AU servers now :\.  It was great when I could join with the US servers.

btw you can filter what servers you want to see, at the top you click 'customize'.

you can filter the list of servers to only show servers which:

-have your friends in it
-have a certain game type (ctf, ffa, tdm, duel)
-are in a certain location (if you pick in your vicinity, then yes it will only show aussie)
-are on a specific map/arena
-are a specific difficulty

Whoever the game says wins, wins.  This is the first time I've heard any different.

thank you

edit:
, I guess we can put it up on the feature vote, but I don't think everybody will agree.

Sorry for the double but I was just reminded of the completely obvious that this week is Easter Sunday. There will be a lot of folks doing other things.

I guess we have to put things on hold again for another week. Sorry for the on-again off-again notice.

ok but i have two question.

if say somehow you manage to acquire enough admins that are willing to spend time daily going over demos for this(as i am assuming that some clans will delay or not report losses), then is there a way for you to gather information from the server the match was played on to determine if either team posts falsely dated demos.(though the whole team would have to do this to get away with it...lol).

this would be effective at determining which team is lying.

also, can a team challenge another team while they have an outstanding match with someone not yet reported by either team?

just admit it, my idea sounds better... with the automatic bot guy setting up all the matches and recording his
log, then someone could make their own ladder site and just import a couple data files ^^ or enter some values into a form which displays the results for the user on the standings page with details of the  match... boom dp has its own ladder, doesn't have to answer to these ESL guys. i dont even know html but im pretty sure its not that hard to do, i could probably learn the language and code it all myself in a month ^^

ok anyway it was good to dream for a moment.

No body ever thinks about that except they just want the person banned.
I don't "want" anyone banned, just trying to see that the rules are obeyed like everyone else. The "person" I think you are referring to will only be banned if caught using more than one global login account. understand?

if not, let me go into further explanation for you:

if this guy 'sonix' really does exist in the real world, then
neither of them will be banned.

thats what this thread is trying to accomplish, proving the existence of this "person", or getting the multi-accounter banned.

i am not trying to get anyone wrongfully banned, just trying to make sure that the truth is sought out and the rules are followed.

i think you misread or misunderstood something.

- The first team to reach 50 wins, so if someone has 2 flags and has 49 points while the other team caps for 52 points. The ending score would be 52 red 53 blue but red would still win for achieving 50 points before blue.

you forgot to state that the red team caps for 52 points (you said the 'other team', then 'red' later... lol

anyway, i disagree with this rule, ive played in many matches where this situation has occurred and have experienced both sides of it. and everytime it happened, it didnt matter who caps first, whoever has more points wins, period (no one has ever disputed this in my presence). i think this type of situation makes the game that more strategic. and i also think that you must have had this happened to you on more than one occassion (capped your enemys flag not realising and having them beat you with possession points), then probably argued with them stating that your team capped first so you win... sorry bro, but you dont get to make it up as you go along..

some ideas,

it would be cool if when requesting a match server, you could pre-select the maps in the IRC command, which would automatically update the maplist of the private server, temporarly (3 maps total). maybe a few servers could be configured like this, not all, if this ESL league thing actually happens..

or another cool idea would be to make the serverbot a little more complicated, so that when you type !match say in #er33t-gaming, the match server bot would PM you asking further details of the match (#ofplayers, maps, etc..) and then configuring the server with the details/maps you selected.

heres an example:

Now talking in #er33t-gaming

<s0ul0> !match

**match|bot pm's s0ul0**
<Match|Bot> What is your clan tag?
<s0ul0> [mili]
<Match|Bot> How many players?
<s0ul0> 4
<Match|Bot> What maps? ***the maps would be decided upon pre-match by both clans, including tie***
<s0ul0> pbcup_pforest kalbeach rebirth_b2
<Match|Bot> OK, your match code is 3ad8dcn3

**then you get the clan your matching to PM (/msg) or /notice the bot with the match code**

/notice Match|Bot 3ad8dcn3

**after my opponent messages the match bot with the match code, the bot will reply to him with the maps/details the initiator (me) selected, then ask my opponent if he accepts the match.

<Match|Bot> what is your clan tag?
<bix> [3iob]
<Match|Bot> confirmed [3iob] vs [mili] 4vs4 match. maps: pbcup_pforest, kalbeach, and rebirth_b2 for tie. Do you accept this match? YES/NO?
<bix> yes

after the challenged user types "yes", the bot will PM both users (will most likely be the leaders of each clan), telling them what color they are and the server ip/password.

**most likely login wont be needed for these type of servers as the server would automatically put the maps in order**

<Match|Bot> bix has accepted the details, s0ul0. Your team is RED. Please make your way to the server: 64.231.24.61:27910 - the password is: dingleberry.

after this messaged is received, the
now i give my team the info and connect to the server.

***after the match is completed, the server will save the details like score and such in some type of text file or auto upload it to a web server somewhere, which the admins can use to update the ladder records or whatever.***

IMO this will provide dp with a more sophisticated matching experience, and could possibly attract a more competitive crowd and bring this game back 'from the dead' so to speak. and will eliminate the need of keeping your clans record in the mirc channel topic. though you could still keep your irc records for 'scrim' purposes...

cool idea for a match script but it sounds really complicated to do, what you guys think?

or maybe someone can post a less-complicated way to accomplish this... a way for the server to record match outcomes, that way you dont gotta deal with admins as far as adding wins/losses go, the server does it for you.

thoughts? ^^

so sonix, weezy's brother...

a. just started playing 2-3 months ago. (and is in ij already?!)
b. is an old player who forgot his login info, therefore created a new account 2-3 months ago. (multi?)
c. is weezy. (FAIL)

i have to say i'm leaning towards C, only because of the fact that i've never seen purple play yet. maybe weezy just hogs the computer from his "brother" IDK hummm.. ^^
