I've uploaded your map to the beta server so you can playtest it (I'll PM you the details).

First impressions:
- Flag looks like it will be too easy to defend, with just 2 narrow approaches and all that glass so defenders can see the offense coming.
- Map overall looks kind of bland -- a bit large and blocky.
- Some of the texture combinations are a bit strange (like a box texture and cobblestone texture on the same brush).
- You might look into using hint brushes to help block visibility.  r_speeds aren't terrible, but if you add more detail, they could become worse, and good visibility blockers also reduce network traffic.  See the attached screenshot -- you can see with gl_showtris 1 that large portions of the map are visible when they should be blocked by a wall.




Thank you for the feedback! Agree in all and yes i dont use hint brushes cause im not realy understanding up until now how to handle them.
First i will figure it out by startin to use hint brushes.

High is way too fast, perhaps add more barriers or have non-ice patches so you can't get going 160mph without trouble.

Hey, yes i am agree with more barriers but also a little confused.

There isnt ice on top just on the mid level above the top oft the bunker. (and low)
Ye may its not necessary anyway.

Also think about to give that bridge high, walls again to the center line and leave it open in mid a little.
 
I dont want it to fast too and going to revise it, time a player needs should be on a similar level anyway.

Rly like the flow of that map :) Great work in my eyes.

I am with Clipz and i prefer when the floor and the walls are optically more apart.

We already play and test it on our speed servers, hope your okay with that!?!

One question, is it possible for you to give the map "sabotage" another (1-2) spawnpoint, so its fix for a full server? :)

If you want it not to become a speed battle so much, and make it a bit more 2v2 oriented, an idea is to make the flag grab area a bit more of a bottleneck and isolated, and add some alternate ways around mid.

Good idea, thx for that so far. I am not sure if that map should be change or its better to make an other Version for classic CTF mode, more separate with sideways.

I agree it's definitely a good way to make your mark for the game.

I have to to confess that Oberhippie brought me that idea, with that mid flags.
That idea comes then to a finger exercise for learning.
Also i see to play it 1s comes quickly to a speed battle, that may not everybody prefers.

But hey :) its Part1.

Did you want each team flag at mid for a reason? Is there a reason not to just use a white flag instead?!

I thought its just a funny variation for a gameplay, to have mid always traffic like that way.
So was just the idea. The different i see is you have points here for a "grabkill" in opposite to 1Flag mode.
And as someone becoming familiar with bsp editor too, its a lot of fun isn't it?!
I love it :) last weeks i spend more time with the Editor then for playing, i feel a little shame not to start earlier. Its also a nice way  to give something back and a great feeling to see things working ingame or even not. Its great. THX for all your work before folks

Second map i like to present.

I try to make a little bigger map for speed servers, during i was in that work i found out that i need to get more feeling for (BSP) dimensions.

Got also some troubles with the alignment i try to fix that.

Its CTF mode with just 1 flag for each base.
There some ways to occupy and defend the bases.
The map have an low, a bunker mid (want it like a classic playfield mid), a way high and its possible to speedjump thru a window direct into the opponents base.

Whats your opinion?

Also :) i make a lot of mistakes thats why it becomes to more versions (b11) as i thought so far.Try to better that in future.

Hey together,
i started to learn first steps with the BSP Editor.

Was a big help to me, that there is that nice german tutorial. thx Chef

So i like to present u my first results.

Pgpstarbox is a "small" oh wonder, Pgp-Map. 
Its CTF mode but both flags are mid and u will find the cappoint in the opponents base.

There is ice on the roof makes its possible to be fast enough over mid or the opponents base to occupy them, after using the teleporter under that arrow u will find in one corner.

Maybe u like it.


So i make a lot of mistakes thats why it becomes to more versions (b9) as i thought so far.Try to better that.

Hey people!

In the last weeks we also tried to make our pub servers,
"Crack the Public" and "wGy´s Pub" more popular.

Recently we also started the "UaD< Public".

Of course I only know the situation in german-main-time,
in the american main time the situation could be another and
I wouldn't even notice. ;)


We always try to have an admin online who can ask for mapwishes, explain things and so on...



These are the problems I see, why most of the newbies don't play on pub servers:

Have you ever noticed that those DcN Servers are always on top of the sevrerlist although
there's no human player on it, only bots?

Hmmm. Maybe that's also the reason why they use bots. just thinking... ;)

My "conspiracy" theory is that this is their marketing strategy...




It's easy to play there for beginners.
They don't know much about PB2 and don't see that this is not the usual gameplay of PB2,
so they won't learn you need to learn to get better.

Its also really hard for european newbies without active friends in paintball to come into the pubscene and enjoy it, because:

1. Our pubscene is small, but full of pros.
2. Some of our pubplayers can't loose and some of them play like it was a match.

These are big reasons for newbies to prefer speed servers,
because they are not so good and often get marked (killed).

And on speedservers, they don't have to wait a long time to respawn, after a few seconds they can try again.

I explained this point already, sorry, but anyways!




I'm not just a speed-server-freak, just to explain myself.





How about the speed serves get taken down for a week?

I think it's not a bad idea to see what would happen,
if some of these "many-slot" servers without any active admins, would be close for couple days.

I'm really interested to see what would happen then. ;)
I think that this would be a chance for the normal servers and,
a little bit later, it could bring more activity to pubs.


From my position I would back up this idea. hehe



Question:

Did someone ever try to contact these people,
who are hosting that DcN, BOSS and other "many-slot" (imo horror) servers?

Maybe to explain them what we think about those servers, and why...




Do you think that the "cRack' the Speed" and "UaD< Speed" servers are also guilty
with 28 slots and elim time of 10 seconds?

Okay, maybe this is also an important point.

But do you really think that the speed server problem and all the other problems that come along with it
make the second point of my last post void?

Time changes, we change and so our way to play also changes.
Multiplayer games are faster, bigger and louder today than some years ago.

Why are more newbies on speed servers than on pubs ?

Not because they want to destroy the Pub scene. They just want to have fun anyway.

Yes, it's crazy to see players on servers like "italy 24/7" with 40 players plus bots.
But in fact it looks like they have the fun that you/we/I miss sometimes.

And come on. In the last weeks i've been playing a lot on all kinds of servers.
Sometimes / most of time some older players on pub play like it's about their lifes or like it's a match.

To show what ? There are enough rentable servers.

And by the way: Last week I asked for mapwishes for a pub server right in this forum.
So everybody is free to bring ideas.

I got 2 serious answers to this question.
