KnacK is no longer on dialup!!!
« on: March 18, 2008, 10:33:46 AM »
Just got finnished getting www.wildblue.com installed at the house with the 1 mb package.

So far with this storm overhead, I'm consistantly getting 1-1.2 mb/s download speeds.

Initial response when clicking on a link is slow ( remember there is almost 1 full second of free space latency for satellite users) but once the page loads, it loads fast.

Remote destop is alot better now, but the 1 second delay is pretty noticable.

Online gaming:

sucks........

All in all I'm pretty pleased with the setup.

$200 for the equipment and $69.00 per month.  Free installation.

Do you still have dialup to game on, or how does that work?  I imagine even a 56k would be better than 1s delays.

Edit: Though the map downloads will probably be a lot faster. ;)

My parents just got off dialup after 14 years or so.  They get a 3000/384 wireless connection off a LOS cell tower for $60/mo.

I'm trying to talk Mr.s KnacK in to keeping the second phone line.....

Even with a 24 db gain dual band yagi hooked to my sprint evdo card I can't get cell service.
