MP3 players, iPods, Creative ZENS, ebay
« on: August 22, 2008, 09:01:37 AM »
Okay, my Sandisk Sansa e280i broke the other day completely (it said that it needs 4 mb for the database, but I actually had over 100mb free and it wouldn't let me access my files) and I'm looking for a new MP3 player. I basically want something over 12gb, (I'm thinking maybe 16) that will play MP3s, etc. Not sure that I want to spend a lot over £100 (about $). I have had a look at the creaive ZENs. Is it true that they can play aac? Cos tat would be a really cool feature as my brother uses ipods so i can nick his music. An ipod would be quite cool, but I'm really not sure what to go 4. So I thought I'd ask you guys!

now, that's the problem. I also need a ohone. I really don't like combined phones and MP3s because they don't have enough memory and the sound quality sucks. But I don't have enough money for that kind of amazingness. :D

Get the iPod Touch if you don't want it combined with a phone.  I got it and there's nothing wrong with it so far.  Except for the fact that you have to pay AUD $13 to upgrade from 1.44 to 2.0.1 firmware.

I love my Archos 204 :D
It's great if you just want to listen music. It is possible to watch pictures too but I don't do that. It can't play videos.
It is a bit heavy but it feels like it won't break even if you decide to drop it. :P
It's pretty cheap and 20 gigabytes is more than enough for your music, isn't it?

Go for an iPod, which ever one you feel most suited to, cus theyre by far the best. Although to get something really good youd probably need to spend a little more than £100.

Well he said that's too much - if he can just pay £100 and he wants 16gb why does people still suggest him an iPod?
In my opinion they're way too expensive - why would someone spend £99 in 4gb (iPod) when one can get 16gb (archos) with £98?

Yeah, when I said 16GB, i mean that I have 16GB of music (or just over) at the moment, and that will be increasing by about 1 gig every 6 months, so 20gb is nice. As far as I can see, 20GB is now really outdated.

The other thing is that I'd prefer not to have a hard drive in it because my brother has got through 4 80gb ipods in the space of about a year. I reckon It's becoz he runs with it on and that somehoe affects it...

Cheers for all the help. If anyone has any brainwaves, please post them ;)

i'm with you. i personally will never buy an apple product, and that includes ipods and iphones and imacs and i-anything. why you ask? for starters, i dont like to go with the crowd mentality... i HATE the "click wheel" ... i really don't care for apple as a company, nor steve jobs as a person.
well, maybe "i-anything" was taking it a bit too far. after all, my mp3 player has "iAudio" plastered on it. :)

i would probably never buy an mp3 player that doesn't work like a simple USB drive. I dont want to be forced to use certain software just to put music on it. also, i might just prefer to organize my music in my own way.
for that reason, i wouldn't buy a zune. *However* my sister has one, and i do like the design of it. microsoft really outdid themselves on these new ones.

as for i-anything, I REALLY like imacs and iphones and all that, but it's just stupid money. And as microsoft are getting better at designing things that look good (like vista, zune, etc.) I'm more tempted to go with them.

Just looked at the archos 204, that thing looks coool. How easy is it to get from 1 artist to another when it looks like it's just buttons (for example, with my e280i, it had a wheel so it was easy). It looks kinda awkward.

forgot to mention one other thing... i'd probably have second thoughts about buying any mp3 player that i can't install Rockbox on. ;)

i bet that 204's center button is actually a 4-way tilter - giving you up, down, left, and right... certainly more intuitive than a wheel.

speaking of archos... i wouldn't mind a 605 :D

The center button is just like webhead said. Personally I like it more than the iPods' wheels.
With three hits of a button you can change the artist.
I wouldn't call my archos awkward, it's actually simple and easy to use.
